What's the deal with Channels?

I’ve been a PlexPass member for 4 years now and I’ve just discovered Channels. Unfortunately, none of them are working! I installed BBCiPlayer, CBS, NBC, Comedy Central. I have tried playing back various videos at random on each site and am always greeted with the same error message: “There was a problem playing this item” Do channels even work?

I have tried using chrome v56 and firefox 51. Also using PlexMediaServer Version 1.4.1.3362

I remember (vaguely) that some channels use a sort of encryption and not all browsers support that (because as far as I can remember there’s a royalty fee). I distinctly remember some channels not working on Firefox or Chrome but working flawlessly on Safari, for example.
