Whats the deal with the music feature.

Hey all,

I’m sure this has been asked before, but its just frustrating me so much recently.
I have several Various artists multi disc albums. I ripped them myself and hand tagged every damn track using mp3tag.
I used the discnumber tag too in both supported standards. e.g. just setting the disk number and also trying the disk number / total discs.

I read up on the system that plex suppose-ably uses (id3 tagging) and what the underlying disc number tag is actually called (TPOS) read more here Tag Field Mappings – Mp3tag Documentation

I even tried naming the files in different ways and folder structures even though the plex documentation state this isnt used. found here https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/205748387-How-do-I-use-multi-disc-support-for-my-music-libraries-

But after all of this, plex still makes a complete mess of it and I have to resort to once again organising all the content.

e.g.

As you can, see plex seems to think disc 1 and 3 are just disc 1.

Above is track 1 of cd1 tag info.

Above is track 1 of cd2 tag info.

Above is track 1 of cd3 tag info.

What am I doing wrong, because this is just ridiculous how I cant seem to do something that I expect to very simple

Figured it out, I didnt have the “use embedded tag” feature when adding the library

It is important to always fill in the ‘Album Artist’ with an identical value for all tracks of an album.
For a sampler album this would be ‘Various Artists’.

Same goes for the album title.
It must be identical for all tracks of an album and must not contain a disc number (or the disc title if a multi-disc release has the particular discs named).
