What's Up With PLEX And Android Auto?

I own a 2021 RAM 1500 Truck with all the bells and whistles. PLEX is a choice on the touch screen when I activate Android Auto. But the only options that appear are “Playlists”, “Recently Played” and “Recently Added”. Why can’t I browse my music by “Artist”, “Album”, “Genre”, etc? The only three options that appear severely limit your ability to play music. I want access to my whole Music Library.

Thanks.

I haven’t used Android Auto, but it looks like you have to do the server selection on your phone first:

Thank you for that link. I will definitely read through it and try to check all the boxes. What’s weird though is when I start Plex on my truck’s touch screen, the first thing I have to do is select my Plex server. It is listed there on the dash. Once I select it, then I have the limited play options.

OK, can anyone else weigh in on this topic? Here’s the situation:

The provided link above really didn’t apply anymore. Perhaps it’s old. I have a brand new android auto vehicle and a brand new Samsung phone. Plex is installed on my phone and is activated with a lifetime membership. The apps section says that I have Android Auto also installed, but there is no way to actually launch this app on the phone. I never installed it manually. It must have installed automatically the first time I connected my phone to my vehicle with a USB cable.

In the vehicle, I can launch Plex on the Android Auto screen. It allows me to choose my music server on the screen. But the only categories available are “playlists”, “recently played” and “recently added”. I see no way to force “artists” or “albums” to also appear.

Do the Plex programmers know of this issue? Is this a bug that needs addressing? All of my apps, including the phone Android OS are up to date.

I have the exact same problem. Brand new Audi etron & Pixel 5. On plugging phone(USB) into the car and starting Android Auto on the car dash, selecting Plex, I only get those options.

No option to select artist or album or downloaded/sync’d tracks. Rather frustrating, especially when attempting to listen to audiobooks.
