I wanted to know if there’s a way to edit episode and show information in Plex. In emby, you can go in and set who’s in a show or episode…is this possible in Plex? I’m not even seeing where you can edit actor/actress information.
That’s one of the beauties of Plex in that it retrieves all that information for you. You normally never have to add any of it.
Should you need to, Yes, you can edit most of the information there by diving down in and clicking the ‘pencil’ (edit) icon.

Emby retrieves the information for you as well. The issue is that the databases that you all use are not complete. And I’ve used Plex since 2008/2009? When you go to edit an object, there is no place for you to edit the actresses or actors. Only directors and writers. Unless there is an advanced edit option.
So you’re specially calling out a request to edit the cast listing? That’s not in there yet. Not sure if/when there was ever a though to do so. Did you find anything in the Feature Requests section?
@FredG89 I did a quick search and found theres a feature request for editing cast members here
I know its old, but I’m sure there was a newer one, try casting your vote there.
As for the general database, it’s really not plex’s fault, more like the Agents. I do get that sometimes in tv shows when it’s airdate vs dvd order episodes.
Try adding/editing your library agents.

No, I get the issue with agents. I know it’s not Plex’s fault…I would just really like to be able to add and remove cast members on Movies, Episodes, and Shows.
Actually, this request goes back over 3 years now. Here is another thread (there are others as well), where a Plex employee states that cast editing is on the todo list. You say that that "That’s one of the beauties of Plex in that it retrieves all that information for you. You normally never have to add any of it, " - so do other programs such as Emby and they still allow the user to go in and edit the cast AND they provide cast lists for TV shows - Plex inexplicably does not do this. To be able to filter by an actor and list his/her performances is great, but it is severely hampered and incomplete when it doesn’t display their TV performances as well.
Can you find the referring thread(s)? they will be in your ‘Discussions’ list.
here is a discussion from March 2012 although the Plex employee who responded didn’t say it was on the todo list. If you perform a search of “edit cast list” you’ll see it has been mentioned numerous times over many years.
I’m not sure why Plex has chosen to not include the cast information for TV shows.
The weird thing is, PlexPy (if you use that to monitor activity on your server) DOES show the cast information for TV Shows when you select a particular series or episode. I think PlexPy just uses information that the Plex database already has, so I assume the info is available, just not visible at all in Plex
Yes, the information is in the database. It’s retrieved with the rest of the metadata.
Why isn’t it displayed and editable unilaterally? Most likely because its a multi-axis database issue and may not have been fully ready when V2 of Plex/Web was laid out & finalized. V2 (Version 2) is what we’re using now.
As far as editing the data, aside from the GUI not having field for it (consider that trivial by comparison), now consider what happens if the UI doesn’t have all the mechanisms in place to prevent incorrect data entry, and someone’s name is misspelled when entered. The link between that actor and all his/her other works just fractured. Do that to a few actors. Now search or filter, but spell it correctly. You won’t find the incorrect one. When they are all in the same series or movie? boom meaningless metadata… This is my point about V2 and the multi-axis database concerns.
Take that to the next level. You’ve made changes. You’ve locked the fields (to prevent change). You force refresh the metadata. Guess what? Bad spelling remains because you locked it. The only choice is to burn down the section (delete it) and begin again.
Am I making sense? Think of a ball of string; stick the scissors down in and cut it somewhere; what happens?

I get your reasoning but for people who will take the time out to edit these details, this would be a none issue. Just say that you all don’t see it as a big concern and it’s not on the road map. Pretty simple answer.
I’m disappointed here. With the new search features, it would be nice to be able to search for episode with specific guest stars. Albert Brooks on the Simpsons for example. As best I can tell Albert Brooks as not listed as a an actor on that show in the metadata Plex downsloads - because he’s a guest not a regular I assume.
That would be fine if I could edit the cast for specific episodes, but apparently it can’t be done.
I can just make playlists to accomplish the same thing, but one way that I’d use the new search tools is apparently a dead end.
