When Can We Expect New Libraries?

[I’m reposting this because a moderator closed this question as a duplicate, when it’s clear they only closed it because it was critical of Plex and they don’t want to address the Library issue.]

I believe I speak for the group when I say that we are disappointed with the direction Plex has been going lately. Instead of focusing on Plex’s Core Business (media management) they’ve been trying to become Pluto, which is something none of us signed on for nor need. There are many library types that could be added.

  1. Music Videos
  2. Books
  3. Audiobooks
  4. Comics
  5. Games
  6. Magazines

It’s been years since Plex has introduced new library categories and we’d like to know when (if ever) you will be focusing on your core business and adding new library categories.

The problem is that it’s not their core business anymore. They make more money from the other services they offer

Neflix used to rent DVD’s in the mail and Amazon used to be a bookstore

True. Plex is able to survive by pivoting to free-streaming, but as long as the basics of the existing Plex servers (self-hosting of most media) stays around, I’m happy enough. I can’t demand a company stays on a (potentially unprofitable) design path just for my sake.

I would love to see Plex expand into supporting comics, audiobooks, ebooks, maybe even games (where do we get the games?) though.

ebooks and comics seem simple enough, as those files are already small enough. I could probably hack up a system of my own if I knew how to do so, but to have one integrated into Plex and using existing apps would be wonderful.

Audiobooks are 90% of the way to being there, just need to develop a better UI for it and support.

Games… they had, in their Plex Arcade. But it cost extra, and was only games THEY provided.

Our primary focus is on video and audio, and we don’t have any plans to introduce new libraries outside of these particular mediums.
