I haven’t used Plex since roughly 2016 or so. I stopped downloading my movies and TV shows, which led me to transition to other ways of watching my shows instead of my PMS.
I decided to reinstall Plex last night and i see there are tons of new movies and TV shows available to stream, which really surprised me.
So my question is: Whose server/database am i streaming from? Is it owned by Plex, or various users? Is it legal?
It’s really cool, but I’m skeptical about how legit it is. Knowing Plex (the business side), I’m sure it’s totally legal… i just don’t understand how.
FWIW, i purchased the Lifetime Plex Pass years ago… not sure if that’s a factor or not…
The free “Movies & Shows on Plex” section and the “Live TV” section do not require nor gain any benefits from a Plex pass. They are ad-supported free streaming options, and are 100% legal.
I know it’s probably not possible but it would be great if it were possible to pay for ad-free streaming. I don’t use any of these types of ad-supported streaming services (Crackle, Pluto, Tubi TV, etc) not because they have ads but because the ads aren’t placed in any kind of ‘logical’ place. They seem to be done on some kind of timer basis and just happen whenever. Like in the middle of a scene or in the middle of dialog. So frustrating, especially when they often start again after the ad break slightly ahead of where they left off.
