When Home Theater turned off, plex client changes audio to "auto select"

My client runs on Windows 11 with HDMI out to an Audio/Video receiver and reverts to “auto select” audio device when the receiver is powered off. The server runs on the same Windows device, so the device is never powered off and the client application is never closed. “auto select” does not support Dolby Atmos, etc. Windows changes the audio device to “remote audio” and the PLEX client allows you to select “remote audio” but defaults to “auto select.”

This is for Plex HTPC but may help, especially posts towards the end

Plex HTPC audio settings reset every update - Plex Players / Desktop Players - Plex Forum

My AVR is always on (Eco mode) and have not had this issue other than when I do a GPU driver update.

Thanks! Actually I .have an Anthem AVM 70 processor feeding 4 Amps and a projector.I will research the standby modes.

Alas, it did not work. It dropped the connection to the monitor for a second, long enough for the PLEX client to revert to “auto select” mode. So the PLEX is quick to recognize the audio disconnect but does NOT recognize the audio restored.

So it isn’t Plex as such but your connections and your HTPC OS.

I know a number of people use hardware and/or software to maintain an always on signal on the HTPC even if the AVR is off.

This is basically an HDMI handshake issue/EDID

Thanks, I’ll try to put together some software…

Ask the question on AVS and or AVF, specifically on the EDID/HDMI always on signal from OS to AVR to display.

I’ve seen a couple of threads on this subject

I ordered an EDID hardware emulator from Altona and it should arrive in a couple of days. Alas, after four hours the Atlona reps could not get it to work. Even worse, the could not get my video back to 60 Hz and HDR turned on. So I have a nice, new at-etu-sync which apparently only works on Samsung TVs…
