Player Audio & Subtitles settings do not save

Running the latest Windows player on a Windows 10 server.
When I set up the Audio & Subtitles settings the audio works as configured but as soon as I close the player and start it again, the settings are back to defaults.

More specifically the Audio Device Setting.
I set it to my A/V receiver HDMI output and it keeps reverting to the Auto Select Device setting. It also resets all of the audio types that I set to passthrough by checking the boxes back to unchecked.

If I reselect the proper configurations, it work fine, but just for that session.

Either something in Plex isn’t saving, or when Plex player starts up, it is detecting something and resetting audio back to default. Whatever it is PLEASE I need a solution.

Thanks.

Close the player app before shutting down your TV and sound system/AVR.
Open the player app after you’ve switched these devices on.

If the player app is opened without the selected “output” being present (i.e. connected and switched on), it will revert to “automatic”.

I’ll try. And I get that it may have been an issue with Plex starting up and not detecting the A/V device. BUT I think that is a flaw in the design and that a setting MUST be added to the Audio & Video configuration to force the user setting no matter.

Too much ‘thinking’ and automation can cause problems as in this case. The ‘smart’ app is not detecting the A/V receiver so it assumes none is present. But that is wrong in my case. I’m using a recent model Denon and even when it is powered off and not sending or responding to EDID signals (or whatever the device ID signal is called), it still passively passes through the HDMI signal to the TV which also supports Dolby etc.

So if the configuration was forced to be ‘Denon AV’ even when the Denon was off, it would work fine. The Denon would passthrough and my TV would decode. Now with this ‘smarter’ feature, I have to fumble every time with which device I turn off when, and in what order. That makes no sense.

OR, is there a way to change something so that the Denon responds and ‘appears’ to be present even when powered off? I’ll have to check but I’m pretty familiar with the settings and don’t think so.

I wonder how I can get this message to the Plex folks to consider putting a ‘force’ button on the configuration so that the power up detection doesn’t change my Audio settings…

I’ve now tried all of the combinations of power down and start up. No dice.
Even when I shut down Plex first and then power up everything and then launch Plex last, the Audio configuration reverts back to default settings.

Something isn’t working properly in the detection phase of start up…

So, aside from all previous troubleshooting, thanks to your reply, I see what the problem is.

Plex is not detecting the Denon A/V presence when it is in standby mode. If the Denon is powered up, Plex detects it and sets audio configuration properly each time. However, if the Denon is powered off, Plex reverts to default audio which means it is not detecting the Denon when in standby.

But that’s a functional problem for me and no doubt many users because we use the Denon for robust external speaker sound and internal TV for less important use. A/V receivers do passthrough while in standby (turned off) for a reason right? To passthrough to TV for using internal TV speakers.

So when Plex fails to detect the Denon in standby, sets audio settings to default, it therefore passes no audio to the HDMI port, so I have no sound since I’m expecting audio output to HDMI always and let the Denon A/V unit passthrough to TV or process accordingly.

Still needs a way to set Plex to force A/V settings or NOT due powerup audio detect, or a way for it to detect the presence of the A/V receiver when in standby mode. In this case, Plex is making decisions for me that it shouldn’t. A/V receivers are commonly doing that today… processing signal or passing through when in standby.
