When should I expect Remote or Nearby?

I have my server on a QNAP NAS running QTS

I have three laptops. Two run Windows 10 and connect to the server as ‘Nearby’ computers’ on plex-web. The third runs Windows 11 and connects as a “Remote” client.

All of these computers are on the same wireless network.

I have two desktop computers one Windows 10 the other Windows 11 with a wired connection to the same network both connect to Plex as “Nearby”.

I have a Chromebook on the same network which connects as “Remote”.

My wifes’s Windows 11 laptop on the same network connects as “Remote”

Any ideas?

Ok. I now have a solution. “Remote” occurs when the default DNS setting is on. If I change DNS to say Google (8.8.8.8) then the PC becomes “Nearby”.
