When things just DON'T work

You know. If you have more issues then I would reinstall plex and walk through the wizard BUT do not create any libraries at that time. Get to the “HOME” page then start creating(adding) the libraries back.

I’ve tried that, too. No luck. Same problem with adding libraries or not.
Now, after the libraries (spinning again), i see i am also getting also the connection errors.
Something like:

All connection to XXX failed.
XXX is unavailable.
etc…

Plex Media Server service is running. But i have a feeling it is either crashed, has some internal problems or the fact about authorisation errors in logs and consequnetly i have no access granted to my own server. This, for me, is so weird i can’t wrap my mind around it.

I have only one and always had only one Plex account. No other users at all.
So i simply don’t understand where the problem with authorisations is coming from.
Tried to solve this with changing password, which, as far as i understand, changes Token. I have tried to logout and do install and setup, i have tried to stay logged in and install and setup - same problem at the end.

Eugh. Tomorrow is another day, maybe there’s an eureka moment.
Thanks for all the suggestions.

The wizard? You can’t even install it and you’re getting all those network errors? If this is correct, then I don’t see a reason why Plex would need to connect to a network while installing(unless to check for updates).

You could also try to add the server to another computer and just add one or two videos to see if it works. If it does, then it’s an issue with your computer. I don’t think it’s an issue with Plex. You said this just happened out of the blue. If this was an issue with Plex there would be a lot more recent posts like yours.

Ok, to be specific and to the point, install is actually fine - because, what is install? In Plex case it is extracting files from EXE, setting up registry and making few services. Easy job. All fine.

The problem is Setup of the new server. And at this point… oh my, oh my, network is essential.
Just look at the logs what is going on for the first time and you will be surprised.
You simply can’t have Plex without network, that’s an old topic people will bitching about. I don’t care about htat fact, fine with me.

It didn’t happen all of a suuden and out of the blue.
Plex server in my case was gradually getting worse and worse. I won’t go in to the deatials as i don’t remember all the things that were off.

Beacuse of those things, I decided to do a “clean” install. And I can’t. At all. Which i should. Always.

And about more topics… LEt’s wait and see few more days, shall we.

So, today I have tried few more things, but i just keep getting same error or problem.
I have created a totally new account, frersh so to say.
Installed PMS on my notebook in the office - went OK from the start.
Then tried with this same account on my home desktop (the one with all the problems) - it didn’t work.
I have changed IP address of my desktop, removed/added/changed port forwarding on my router.
Enabled/disabled/added specific rules to Windows Firewall. No luck.
I have deleted all the browsing data in Chrome, no luck.

Same problem all over each time I do install.

My notebook and my desktop computer have same updates/windows version. So i highly doubt this could be a problem.

While on notebook all seems to be fine, on my desktop i am still gettting errors in browser console and in PMS log file.

The most interesting for me is this in error log:
ERROR - MyPlex: Error 408 requesting XML from: https://plex.tv/servers/76321b3ca5de6c49494717285d521a4c64cb5a36/access_tokens.xml?auth_token=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx&includeProfiles=1&includeProviders=1

And in my browser console:
Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 404 (Not Found):
https://plex.tv/api/home?X-Plex-Product=Plex%20Web&X-Plex-Version=3.95.2&X-Plex-Client-Identifier=9yr08yumuwundgpwls7rb2fj&X-Plex-Platform=Chrome&X-Plex-Platform-Version=75.0&X-Plex-Sync-Version=2&X-Plex-Model=bundled&X-Plex-Device=Windows&X-Plex-Device-Name=Chrome&X-Plex-Device-Screen-Resolution=1920x947%2C1920x1080&X-Plex-Token=---------------&X-Plex-Language=sl

If it is 404-ing i don’t have much of an infulence. Either the link is generated wrongly or it is correct but the Plex side is not existing. Weird thing is, that on my notebook all was fine on the first install/setup - which probably uses same link etc… I don’t know.

Really frustrating.

New error in browser console:

GET http://127.0.0.1:32400/player/proxy/poll?deviceClass=pc&protocolVersion=3&protocolCapabilities=timeline%2Cplayback%2Cnavigation%2Cmirror%2Cplayqueues&timeout=1&X-Plex-Product=Plex%20Web&X-Plex-Version=3.95.2&X-Plex-Client-Identifier=9yr08yumuwundgpwls7rb2fj&X-Plex-Platform=Chrome&X-Plex-Platform-Version=75.0&X-Plex-Sync-Version=2&X-Plex-Model=bundled&X-Plex-Device=Windows&X-Plex-Device-Name=Chrome&X-Plex-Device-Screen-Resolution=1920x947%2C1920x1080&X-Plex-Token=XXXXXXXXXXXX&X-Plex-Language=sl net::ERR_INCOMPLETE_CHUNKED_ENCODING 200 (OK)

By some small miracle, i got to finsih the wizard.
But it was just a small miracle  - Now the server is of course still not available when trying to access it.

Someone mentioned something about certificates.
What is that all about? What certificates? How can I approach from that perspective?

Thx

Looking at the error messages, this seems to be the most significant. The CA intermediate certificate should be a red herring caused by the 408 error.

HTTP 408 is request timeout so I would start by checking that your firewall (most likely local windows firewall) is not blocking access to internet for Plex. There are a few other threads that mention Error 408, but those don’t seem to be relevant to you, so at least that is a starting point.

I have disabled Windows firewall for problem hunting reasons. Doesn’t help.
Something seems to be blocking connection, that is now pretty much obvious to me, too.
It all started with codecs not being downloaded i think.

Apart from Windows Firewall which is turned off but it anyways has OUT ANY rule, i have no idea at all what could be blocking these connections.

I don’t use antivirus sofrware apart from Windows Defender, nothing changed on my router and it has ALL OUT ANY rules, too. No blocking to outside world.

Any ideas what else could be a blocker?

I also have no VPN or something along those lines.
I can access internet pretty much openly.

Hi There - a small tale!

I have been having problems with plex (latest client android and server PC) not playing anything on my phone now for a little while, I keep trying and kept looking for a solution, but nothing came up.

Fastforward to last week, I notice thunderbird was also going wonky - I was not getting any mail and when I was starting it, it was throwing up a password permissions error on the connection for some reason. I hunted around and found out to turn the connection security to none. I realise this might be bad, possibly ISP or certifacte related, but Im careful about what I do and generally tech savvy - well it worked and I got all of my mail. I think it had been like this for 2 weeks.

Anyhow, today I deciced to dig into my plex problem. I thought about how long my plex problem had been and noted how it seemed oddly around the same time I stopped receiving mail. So I went into the server settings and on a whim turned the secured connection from preffered to disabled, started my server and client again and lo and behold - it’s playing things again. After some tinkering, sometimes the client seems to establish a connection to the server and sometimes not. When it does, I can play anything, when it doesn’t, have to restart the client and try again.

Something is quite odd with plex these last few weeks. wether the cause is plex, I don’t know.

Installed PMS in my Linux VM which is a guest on the same Windows 10 machine.
100% working, no problems at all, just smooth as a butter.

So i have ruled out mess in my account, router firewall and basically everything apart from Windows 10 installation which seems to mess with my PMS.

Don’t know what else to try as it seems there is some kind of issue which is burried under tons of registry, cache and simple MS facts…

I have to admit that it’s been years since I last used Windows and essentially never used Windows 10. But even if the builtin firewall has been disabled, I would still double check the outgoing rules in the firewall settings for anything Plex related.

I would also check the Preferences.xml file just in case that there is something funky there. It could be that for some reason Plex is thinking it’s supposed to listen on localhost only and it’s attempting to make all connections through that interface or something.

At this point I’m 100% in guessing mode, just in case there is some idea that might help you figure out the cause…

The lucky one…

Lucky, or just very busy with everything else…

Having Linux only is my wet dream for years.
But we all know there are some downsides to it, which are constantly pushing me back to Windows. I have a pretty good solution with Windows 10 as base OS and a VM with Linux slapped on top of that. Two monitors. Noice
