This has been an annoying bug for sooo long, having this feature finally work would be AMAZING!
Quite often series files get renamed or moved or reordered and their metadata gets dragged along with them without updating correctly and the only actual fix is to do “The Plex Dance”.
However I’m sure everyone who ever uses this software expects that is exactly what the “Refresh Metadata” button should do.
My expectation when clicking the refresh metadata link on an episode, season or series: Plex should lookup the metadata for that episode/season/series as if it had just been added to the library new and replace any existing metadata that differs unless locked by a manual update.
Why does it not do this and what is stopping you from making it do what everyone expects??
This would surely stop the majority of reasons for performing “The Plex Dance” and make the functionality a lot more in line with what is expected. Am I crazy in thinking this?
Here’s an example:
4 episodes of the show Bluey were incorrectly numbered. The 4 episodes had the correct metadata in Plex but they were around the wrong way so I renamed the files with the correct numbers to reorder them.
2 of the episodes kept their metadata and the other 2 lost their metadata:
You would think if I click the episodes and choose “Refresh Metadata” that they would update and correct the mistake but as we all know, clicking that option does NOTHING.
So now the only way for me to fix this is to remove the entire series (103 episodes) and perform “The Plex Dance” or I could manually update the episode metadata which would then lock in my manual edits for the episodes.
This is EXACTLY the sort of thing the “Refresh Metadata” function should resolve!
