When will Remote Access be available to Plex Pass members?

I’ve been a Plex Pass holder for years and keen to use Remote Access when it becomes available. Does anyone know when it will be released? I assume it is still a beta or requires a higher level of membership as I understand it does not work for any Plex Pass users?

Thanks

Remote access has been available for as long as I have had Plex Pass.

How have you got it configured in the Remote access section of settings? Are you maybe being blocked by your router?

Oh that’s great. Everyone I know using Plex has never got it to work and I assumed it was a feature for the future!

“Your server is signed in to Plex, but is not reachable from outside your network. Learn moreTip: It looks like your server may be connected to the internet through multiple routers or other network devices. Try connecting it directly to your primary device, or visit our support site for more information about troubleshooting this “Double-NAT” scenario.”

I’ve just had a look at the Learn More above and it is very complicated. I’ll have a look at the router tomorrow to see if it supports this - it’s a Netgear Orbi.

Thanks for your help.

I have just checked and whilst your router supports uPNP (universal Plug n Play), you want to keep this switched off and forward your ports manually for better security.

so, here is a screenshot of my “Remote Access” page in Plex Settings:

  1. Press the button to enable remote access
  2. Check the “manually specify port” and enter a port number (mine is the default number).
  3. I have masked my external IP address in red, but yours should show there.

Now, go to your router settings screen and forward your ports as follows:
Screenshot 2020-06-20 at 15.03.37

  1. The IP address is the IP of my Plex server on my home network (which you can see on the settings page above).
  2. Forward the external port 32400 to whatever internal port you typed into your Plex settings (point 2 above). Note, my router shows 32400-32400 mapping to 32400-32400 (a range of 1 port mapping to a range of 1 port).
  3. Set the Protocol as TCP

Good Luck!

I input the settings you suggested and I now have “Fully accessible outside your network”.

That’s amazing!
I’ve been using Plex for years and years and did not know that it was so easy with the right help to do this.
Thank you Thank you.
I guess I’ll be able to test this when next outside the home.

Pleased I could help

…you can test it by simply switching wifi off on your phone or walk outside of WIFI range of your home.

You don’t need Plex Pass for Remote Access.
You just need to do what you did.

PPass give you a few options for limiting streams and using Hardware (which you may need now more than ever), but that’s about it.

Note:

When streaming to a remote client - Remote Quality is the setting that either stops a transcode - or starts it - mostly. Out of the box it’s way too low. Adjust as necessary and nothing you do at the server will make any difference in that regard. It’s ALL Client.

If Remote Quality in the Remote Player’s Plex App is set lower than the stream you are serving - a transcode WILL Absolutely Occur. If you have the CPU/GPU Horsepower to do the transcode - all is well. If you don’t… bad things happen.

I did know that - doh!

Oh, what a wonderful world…

I have tested Plex outside the home and still can’t use it.

I have followed all the advice and I temporarily have access according to the web menu but it disappears after a minute or so.

Appreciate any advice. I’ve been a subscriber for years and have never been able to watch anything outside the home and in fact no of no-one who can??

I’ll cover the fact that I also cannot watch anything in my home at present in a separate thread

are you sure these two topics (unable to watch at home and unable to watch outside the home) are not related?

…am going to PM you…
