When will the invites come out for the Plex Cloud Beta?

Hey, my birthday is Sunday and my 22TB of Content is just busting for an Invitation‼️How About it…?

Beta is being rolled out slowly in groups. Right now due to Amazon’s API things have almost gone to a halt, until Amazon fixes these issues, Plex Cloud is kinda in standby mode.

Yikes, so it sounds like mostly Amazon problems with server bandwidth, etc? I figured those guys would kinda have that stuff down by now, considering Netflix relies on them 100% now.

Thanks for the insight. Definitely keeping a copy of my media local until things get hashed out.

It sounds like it is more of an issue with the fact that Amazon’s API is web based, and can’t possibly match the speed reading file indexes as a “real” filesystem.

Plex! I love you, but I hate you! :frowning:

You could in the meantime use a utility such as ACD Dokan.Net to mount your Cloud Drive locally and just add your plex libraries according to the synced files. I have been going this route for about 3 weeks now and it works out splendidly. The only real caveats are Amazon, Amazon API and the Amazon Desktop App which is horrific at best.

Seems like Plex is making a wise move by negating the invite process at the moment. I can stream the crappiest converted VHS at super low bitrate and still get cut-outs and lags. Streaming from ACD at the moment is sort of a drag; is the best way to sum that up.

Will this be any helpful to play media outside the WiFi network? Like, will it stream directly from Amazon Drive or will it still be routed through PC server first?

Anyone able to hazard a guess how long Amazon will take to sort the problems out? If it’s weeks, I’ll stop checking my email for an invite so eagerly.

It treats your Amazon Cloud Drive just like another drive mounted on your local computer. I have created it as a mounted drive H:// . Then I simply tell Plex when creating a library (TV - ACD … is what I name them in the ACD) that I want to connect to H://TV, as I have segmented my Amazon Cloud Drive into various media groups, e.g (Movies, Music, TV etc).

Works a treat and I just stream from app.plex.tv from home or on a long plane flight. My brother streams from it in NC as well. No issues and it works tremendously well! I suppose that this is essentially the method Plex is using, accept they are implementing this from directly inside the software.

In short, yes… it streams directly from your ACD.

Additionally, streaming from the Amazin Cloud Drive has improved ten fold over the past couple of days. Not sure if it was congestion with my ISP, or if Amazon is fine-tuning their delivery on these services… finally.

If your Plex Media Server is local, and you map an Amazon Cloud Drive account so it appears as local drive then any streaming outside of your LAN will still stream from your home going out over your upload bandwidth. When your remote friends play content it will still impact your server and bandwidth.

I would be very surprised if many (or any) are added to the beta for at least two weeks and I would be even more surprised if Plex Cloud went live in under 6-8 months. I really think in may be closer to a year.

There is a LOT to do and many many features that are not part of the current Plex Cloud.

But Plex is more than welcome to surprise me. I “think” my heart can withstand the shock.

Ah, this is correct. It does still use home bandwidth.
On that note: this is what the Plex Cloud solves correct?

We would love a surprise  but if it’s going to be a long time, I do think a slightly lower key beta test might have been a better idea.

Why are they not issuing invites by first come first served, I applied for an invite 2 days before my brother who relieved his today and yet i have not had a invite yet.

At this rate might as well cancel plex pass and go with kodi

Boo hoo hoo. It’s a beta test. Yes, please cancel and go with Kodi then.

Yeah I would REALLY like to get that invite. I have 15TB of video to upload and its going to take a hella long time to get done.

You don’t need to wait for an invite to upload your movies, just follow the structure you already use for your home server. It’ll give you a headstart when you do get invited and a safe backup for your files, so really there is no reason to wait.

So you’ll just be able to link it later? I was concerned that the Plex Cloud would need to make a container (a.k.a How amazon S3 works.) for the storage.

Plex Cloud will just read what ever folder you tell it to.
Only linking is to your Amazon Cloud Drive account, after that just select a folder to add to a library

Yes, you can use any folder and even change things around later. I have uploaded my pictures to Photos, tunes to Music and created 3 folders in Videos named Home Videos, Movies and TV Shows, but you can set it up in any way you want. It’s as flexible as your home setup.

would love to try Plex Cloud Beta.

It may take me a year to upload my TBs of data, running at a 10MB upload speed… I’ve been at it for days to ACD. I’ve had a Plex Pass before Plex became more known. I’ve had my home server running for a long time now. Hoping to get an invite.
