Where are my files?

Is there a way to know where a particular file is located in the library if it mistakenly gets grouped with another file?

I have some libraries that are local media without subfolders and don’t necessarily have known metadata. Typically I would see that it adds the file to my library and simply uses the file name as the title and can edit that if I want. There is no “match”. In some cases though it never appears or appears briefly and then disappears in the library…because it gets mistakenly identified and grouped in the library with another file/title.

If I knew what it got lumped in with I could simply go split them apart and rename one. The problem is I have no idea what title it got lumped in with so I can’t do that and I have no idea what title the video is listed under.

Is there a report or way of knowing which files have this condition? Hopefully I’m explaining this clearly…

TIA!

In the Library view of the library, apply the “Duplicates” filter:

You can then “Get Info” on any duplicates listed to see the file path(s) associated with the entry.

I don’t have any duplicates currently so I can’t show a concrete example.

Good suggestion! I found about 20 duplicates,. None were this file in question though.

After splitting all those I removed the latest file from my monitored folder, scanned files then emptied the trash. I re-added it and it didn’t even find the file. When I originally added it, the title showed up for a few seconds then disappeared. I assumed that it got merged into another title, but now I can’t even prove that.

Weird…

The Export Tools portion of WebTools should be able to export a CSV with file paths ana what they were matched to.
