Add another vote for changing the location to a more user friendly one. I can’t share pictures since IM is not an option. Previously I would save and find the image in my gallery. This is a fairly recent change for the save location.
yes, please make this happen! it’s one of the reasons i paid for a plex pass…i wanted to be able to use plex to easily sync my music and play it using my preferred audio player.
Just another vote for this. I’ve started to use Emby rather than Plex because the android app does not work properly (https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/comment/1431243#Comment_1431243) and I can’t easily use a 3rd party player. I’d rather stick with plex as it preforms better on my hardware (Synology) but until at least one of these two issues is fixed it’s going to remain disabled.

Plex Pass user here chiming in. Just upgraded today to test everything out, and to say the least, I’m disappointed. Really wish we could access the folder or choose the desired sync location. I assumed “sync” meant that the app would just grab the files I wanted and place them into a folder of my choosing on my phone/android device/whatever, unmodified and with no encryption. Sad to see that’s not the case.
Exactly the same situation for me, guess I should have checked the forums before getting the Plex Pass. Sadly the current implementation makes this feature absolutely worthless to me. I really like some aspects of Plex but I am more and more getting the feeling Plex only ever goes to 80%, in the end there are always lots of basic features missing to make Plex perfect.
Just one more user with the same complaint. I sync using Plex (and it actually works great), but I’d love access to those files so that I can also play them directly using a different app (Samsung VR, to be exact). Really hoping for some resolution here…
Though now that Plex is playing local files (in Beta) maybe I can stop using sync and just move files locally, then plex them from either app.

If you want to play the files with an app other than Plex, why not convert them and copy them yourself? I don’t fault Plex for putting synced files in a spot they control, for use with their app.
Yet another vote for fixing this.
I don’t mind the choice of folder. But naming all audio files “Key.mp3” and storing them separate from their meta-data is a crippling choice, and intentionally so.
Please, at the very least, store the files with a meaningful name
Premium here. Let us determine the location for synced audio files. Some people would rather use our favourite audio app for music playback. We buy Android phones over iPhones for a reason. Cheers.
If not, ill go back to music bee.
another vote here too. I lost my Plex server hard drive ( was external in my littleone pulled the cable and done…hard drive in the floor). I have 95% of my music synced in my Android and I have no way now to take it from there and copy it to the new external Hard Drive in my Plex server. We need this fix ASAP.
(Sorry my English, I’m using an automatic translator)

Hi, I’m new, I’ve just subscribed a lifetime subscription, and I’ve just discovered these limitations: I also want plex synchronizing some files in accessible folders so I can handle them as I want, for example, read them with any reader.
I was rushed: if I knew these limitations, I would not subscribe to this subscription …
I believe that my request and other subscribers are very simple: the ability to save a copy of a plex fileed audio or video file locally, without conversion, modification, renaming etc.
As i’m using plex mainly for syncing music to my phone, it’s frustrating that i’m not able to use my prefered app for audio files on my android phone. Sorry to say this, but ■■■■ up with your “mainly focusing on video” behavior and give the sound freaks what they want. Should’nt be that problem…
I would really like to be able to use atleast an external music player so I created a feature request and everyone with a plex pass can vote for it.
EDIT:
Just in case you don’t know how to vote:

There was an update of the Plex App the last days, and now it seems like as there is an option to choose the location where the synced files are stored. Haven´t tried it yet but i´m hoping it works!
Can’t see any new options
i can only show you a screenshot from my app in german.
I don’t think sync is working the way I understand it to. I was hoping that it would download a copy of the video onto my other devices. I like to do this so I can watch my content on my phone without buffering, and being able to view it if offline.
I tried syncing a few shows, and after it said they were synced they wouldn’t play while I was offline and it constantly stuttered and buffered when it did play when on WifI outside my home network.
Also, like most people here have stated, I would like the option to play synced media in any other apps on my device and have those files be discoverable in those apps without having to go through the Plex App after syncing is complete.
+1 vote for being able to access the sync’d folder with other apps. All I want to do is play videos downloaded from my plex server with VLC or Kodi on my Android. Main thing I’m trying to achieve with that is 2X video playback speed. Doesn’t seem like it should be that difficult of a problem to solve, but apparently it is.
Although you can’t access the files directly without rooting, you should be able to play files using whatever player you want. Under Settings…Advanced…Player there is an option to “Use external player”. Unfortunately it’s a global selection, so you can’t do it on a per-episode or per-series basis, but it will allow you to play the video files using whatever player you want.

Even if this option is not perfect, I’d be glad to have the same choice for audio.
I know it’s been couple months since the last post to this thread so this may be old news…
However, I wanted to post here in case others found this thread looking for the same answer.
In my case, I am setting up a backup and I wanted to “avoid” backing up these relatively large files since they are copies of other files I already have.
I can’t speak for music files but, in my case, with sync’d videos, I found the files right away with the help of the 2nd post - not exact but close enough for me to find them.
I’m running Plex v6.9.0.2683 (Android app)
My PMS v3.29.7
My Android device is a Samsung S8
Android version 7.0
Android security patch level October 1, 2017.
This device is NOT rooted.
In the Android Plex app, under Settings–>Sync, I have set Sync storage location to “External storage”
My sync’d video files are located at:
SD Card/Android/data/com.plexapp.android/files/media_parts/
In this folder there is a sub-folder for every video I have sync’d. Each sub-folder is named with a 9-digit number so there is no clue what video is within each sub-folder. Within each sub-folder is a single file named “key.mp4”. These are my videos sync’d from my PMS. Again, they are not named in any way that I can tell what the video is, but they are there, in plane view, and I can play them directly with any compatible player.
I just tested this and the first sub-folder contains my next-to-watch episode of “12 Monkeys”. The sub-folders don’t appear to be in any easy-to-discern order but at least I found what I needed in my case.
This might not help someone trying to share these files directly since they’re all named “key.mp4” and they are in folders that don’t tell you which video is which.
PS - I don’t want my money back
