The media_parts folder is of limited utility, especially since it chunks large files into 1.8GB pieces. Please vote for this issue for now; I’m looking to see if there’s something similar that’s more popular.
Has anyone got a solution for this? My 64GB sd card is currently at 100% in spite of me deleting all the videos from the plex app.
I have no sync items in the queue. How do I recover the storage space?
Download / Play Work Around
● Log into your Plex server using a browser
rather than using the App. (I use Firefox)
● Click on the pips icon at the top right of the
page with your media displayed.
● Choose Download.
● Files can then be saved anywhere you choose.
.
● This means that any player of choice can be
used.
● Files can be moved to any device.
● Add the folder to PLEX and voilà, its syncable.
Have fun Guys and Girls <3
And thanks for the question and discussion
without which I wouldn’t have found this technique.
@MattTwinkleToes not sure if this works for you but I noticed the data gets stored as user data in the app. Go to storage, Plex, clear user data. I’m hopeful this will work as I loaded my phone for a flight tomorrow then noticed this forum. Need to clear up at the other end for all the photos and video I hope to be taking
Another Plex Pass user here. +1 for allowing other apps to access the synced media natively, please!
Same here. I purposely bought a Plex Pass for the sync feature, assuming I would be able to access the actual file after syncing. I am disappointed to see that I cant. I am on the fence of asking for a refund because of this.
I will add the vote of yet another Plex Pass user. I want the ability to access synced content by other apps. At least as an option. For my use case there are other options that would make me happy, primarily first class offline audiobook player support (but that is a much bigger feature request).
I too would love this feature. I want to sync audiobooks and the plex app seems to struggle in offline only.
+1 for me as well. The way the media files are hidden right now, is just ridiculous. I own the content I stream, there should be no reason why it could not be just stored in a foldered structure under selected directory (e.g., Downloads, Music, etc.)
I can see why that wouldn’t want to grant direct access to media from other servers, but I think if you’re an admin of a server you should be able to access the synced files from it.
but you can … if you know where to look, files are there (irrespective of whether you’d admin or not). For servers where you do not have admin rights, it would be easy to just not allow users to sync content from such server and be done with it. Streaming all day long, but no sync
I’m not familiar with every platform, but Android stores the files in a protected directory that users don’t have read/write access to.
Hi, it would be nice to hear from staff…
It looks to be a pretty simple and common request!
Would also be nice to use an external hard drive with this. I have an android head unit in my car with a 1tb ssd hooked up to it. Every other app see’s this drive but plex does not for syncing purposes. I’m also a plex pass user.
Same here. Downloaded files on Android can be playable if you select the advanced option to use external player (albeit buried and all named key.mp4), but since usb external drives don’t seem to be selectable, it’s not possible to play them on another device without another long and tedious transfer off the sd! Why aren’t usb mounted volumes not selectable? Why can’t the files be given their original names, and stored in one defined place? Thanks
You know, I just discovered something. I think that downloads to mobile are encrypted. Am I wrong? I say this because I also have VLC installed, and VLC automatically scans my folders for any media. It found non of the videos/music I downloaded/synced. That could only mean it’s encrypted.
It depends on the files. Although many applications store files in the android/data folder, regular media files are normally not encrypted. I think it’s something that PLEX does. If you already own your files, I don’t understand the encryption. (unless it’s an added security against mobile hacking… I guess…)…
+1 to this. Look forward to the day Plex is replaced by something FOSS and not bending over to whomever doesn’t allow these simple features any respectable Media Server should offer.
+1 seems like a no brainer
+1 Need choosing the sync directory, or make sync files reachable by other app
