+1. This is a MUST have feature.
Itās not encrypted, but only the Plex app has permissions to its data directory.
Each app on Android has its own protected data directory that only that app can access. Plex chooses to use this directory for synced media instead of of user-accessible space on the SD card/shared storage area.
Do you see this changing any time in the near future? Iām super interested in an Android-based DAP, though most of them seem to only be able to output HRA etc in their first-party app, which sucks as Plex is a nice combined media app.
Plex pass here:
Is there any ETA for this feature/fix?
I wanted to use plex to sync my music onto my phone so I can play it in the car.
But since the files are in the app private storage my car dlna app canāt access them
+1 also Plexpass User. Currently not usuable. Also interested if there is any ETA
+1
Want this, too.
I would never use the Music Feature of Plex without this functionality. I mean itās my music and my device and I paid for Plex. Why isnāt the music accessable through other apps or by myself. Sounds like a bad joke.
+1
plex pass user here, I would also like the folder to be accessible.
Another Plex pass user voting for choosing sync location. Alas I think the Plex leadership has spoken(deafening silence) that they will not accommodate this simple request. Management will do everything to keep users within the app at the expense of user experience. Itās all about driving users to their sponsored content now.
Yep, another plus one from a Plex Pass holder. Plex is so incredible at almost everything, but the sync/offline capabilities for music just doesnāt hold a candle to Subsonic. Plex should hook up with Subsonic and get back to the drawing board. Deafening silence is frustrating, at least lie and say weāre looking into it.
exactly. i could live with the data not being accessible to other apps (i already see plex admins complaining about copyright issues with the accessible downloads) if the plex app would work properly in offline mode. but most of the time i cannot even open plex without data connection.
btw. everyone replying to this thread show vote for this feature request here: Android choose sync storage location
I love Plex but am also frustrated that synced music is locked down to only the Plex android client app. It is my content (51GB of my vinyl rips) and my phone doesnāt have enough storage for two copies (128GB with no SD expansion)
I like, plex but the reaction of the @kegobeer-plex makes me very doubtful if I still want to use plex. Because in my eyes it just says your problem, nice that you pay but we donāt listen anyway.
Yes plz! I just noticed my default Android music folder is not the download location for plexamp. Please fix this! Iād love to be able to listen to Plex amp while USB connected in my truck.
Android auto support on the Plex app for downloaded music content is poor, if only we could see the files from the VLC appā¦
Please put downloaded files in a shared location, with all the correct names and tags, or at least allow us an option to do it!
Iām using VLC with manually downloaded content, sad to say
Android auto is indeed very poor right now, I canāt select even the album but just recently added and played. Either Plex improve the auto support or let external player to be used to reproduce music! Please!
Is anyone from Plex going to comment in this thread? Seems like everyone would love to see this allow you access to your files, but the only people posting are us users.
Please, someone from Plex reply on this thread, and let us know if this feature is every going to be made available to us!
+1 Shared Location please. This is a well overdue option and one that PlexPass users should certainly have access to. Worse still is that fact that not one single person from Plex has responded⦠shameful!
I would at least love to hear an official comment if this will happen in the future and if not why?
Copyright is imho not an argument since the files are already on the device, it doesnāt matter where they are.
Improving android auto with the plex app doesnāt help me with my use case so I would propose the following:
- Let the user choose an directory where the files should be synced to. At that point the app could ask for additional storage permissions (if required)
This would enable the following use cases:
- Use a DLNA app to stream the music inside a car (newer cars have wifi hotspots and it is much nicer integrated than any android auto/bluetooth solution. This is my personal use case)
- Use any other preferred music player app
+1 For this. The downloaded content canāt even be viewed by plex amp, something they devolped. Anyone think that the fact that this has been a problem for 7 years is a little disappointing?
Plex Pass Lifetime user. Currently on a flight trying to watch a movie I synced. Forgot to download the subtitles with the movie so I paid for internet and tried to sync. Turns out only burn in can happen when syncing, and no way to full sync over airplane wifi. No problem, I will just download an srt and play with VLC. Oops, no way to access the downloaded files, so I am SOL. Seems like my old friends Handbrake or FFMPEG would have been more useful. Come on guys, how hard is this?
