I am looking to have have movie and TV posters default to the png files that I have contained in their respective folders. I have the agents setup to prioritize local media assets, the posters are in a folder along with the movie or show in question, yet in Plex a poster is generated by taking a screenshot of the movie/show.
I’ve read the local media asset guide and gone through seemingly every post here on the forum that would be related to this topic but have not been able to come up with a solution. Tried naming the poster files “poster.png” and also “[movie title].png” but neither did the trick. What does it take to have Plex recognize the posters in the folder containing the movie/show and use that poster in the UI?
Below are some screenshots of my settings and movie previews:
is it a “other videos” library or a “movies” library? if a movie library it does not use the personal media agent by default. like mentioned above you can fix match for those items select Search options and choose personal media agent. it will then use those personal media agent preferences you have set for those while keeping other things in the library using the movie agent for the library
is it a “other videos” library or a “movies” library?
All files are in either the movies or TV shows library, none are in an “other videos” library.
Upon using the “Fix Match” option set to personal media it removes all other information (actors, synopsis, etc.) and still does not show the poster in the thumbnail either. For now I will just use the edit feature to select the image I want to use, though I wish it could be automated and avoid duplication of the image.
The screenshot you showed of your agent settings was of the “personal Media” agent. if those movies are in a movie library they are likely using the “Plex Movie” agent you need to movie local media up for that one if you want them to be used automatically
Then it sounds like they were not matched at all for some reason. If they are still like that or you have others with what appears to be the screen capture of film then hit “get info” in option menu for item then “view XML” in window that opens. In the XML the GUID will show which agent was used if any. If the GUID is like “local:54322” then it was not matched for some reason using any agent.
(I wasn’t clear if other things like actors, summary and such were gotten in your first post)
