Where does Plex get TV show data from?

Server Version#: 1.32.5.7349

I’m adding a bunch of Iron Chef Japan episodes to my server and the episode numbers and titles in Plex do not match up with what is on TheTVDB.com. That’s fine because Plex appears to be correct and TheTVDB.com seems wrong. I’d like to figure out where else Plex might be pulling this (correct) data from.

For instance, The TVDB has this for season 1 episode 1

• S01E01 Red Snapper

  • February 26, 1998
  • FilmRise
    Morimoto’s debut as an Iron Chef brings a difficult challenger: Yukio Hirayama.

So The TVDB might “technically” be correct on when the show actually aired, but in Plex it says

Ishinabe vs Maruyama Takeshi (Salmon)

[Season 1]( Episode 1 )
October 10, 1993 41min TV-G

I’d like to find out where this “correct” data is coming from so I can match up my episode files names correctly.

By default, Plex uses The Movie Database (TMDB) ordering for TV series. Its data does seem to line up with what you’re seeing.

You can affect the ordering used for a particular series by editing that series (pencil icon while hovering over its poster); navigate to the advanced tab and select the desired Episode Ordering.

The default can be changed at the library-level by editing the target library and changing the same setting on its advanced tab.
