Why hasn’t there been a grid guide added for the PC? I would have thought the PC would have got it before the Apple TV.
Why? Because.
There is no approval process for the PC unlike the Apple store. I guess no love for the pc. Not sure what’s going on with this app…maybe the developer left.
Last update was just 10 days ago.
It’s available in “web” view at least.
I was about to flip over my frontend from Kodi to Plex Embedded when I was surprised to see that there wasn’t a “Guide” view for the DVR section.
Just so I understand this correctly, the only platforms the guide view is available on is the web player and the apple store version?
These three:
- Plex Web App
- Apple TV
- Android TV
Can you even work the remote control in the web view? Who uses web view in a home theater environment? It would be nice to know a basic ETA. 2 weeks, 2 months, 2 years?
Folks use the web view on their desktops through PMP instead of in browser because they want to use Plex Media Players more capable backend player engine which can play more natively than what a browser can. If their server machine that can’t transcode might be a reason
Sorry there is no ETA
I have to agree an ETA would be nice to know, but I have a feeling that we will never know. Last year there were rumors of the grid view coming and Plex kept pushing it further and further back. People were getting mad/annoyed because of the delay and I think people were jumping from Plex to Emby because of the grid views. I think this is why Plex is unable to offer an ETA on this.
On the other hand, I also agree that the web view isn’t a viable option for a home theater TV. I can see if you want to watch it on a laptop, but not for a dedicated home theater box. From what I understand, the DVR isn’t available away from the home network. It sounds like live tv is only available if you’re within the house. Which, again, isn’t great because I think most people use the web app when they are away from home and on the go. If you’re at home, you’re going to be watching TV on the big screen.
The Grid View is only available on Android TV, Apple TV, and the web view. I have all kinds of equipment laying around my house. Fire TV’s (stick and the regular), a Mi Box, x86’s, Mac OSX, raspberry pi’s, NUC’s, smart TV’s, etc. Everything but an Apple TV or Nvidia Shield. I don’t want to purchase yet one more piece of equipment just to be able to use the grid view while I have all these other devices that are capable but viewing live TV but just not the grid because it’s not implemented.
It sounds like if you want to get the DVR grid view on a big screen TV, you’re going to have to either buy an Apple TV or Nvidia Shield and shell out at least $180 bucks.
I agree not having the grid view on my Roku is disappointing. We just signed up for Plex pass and my wife is completely confused by just having to browse through those thumbnails to find a show on our TV.
Well, no grid view (which should have come out for all players at the same time), but you have Web Shows and Podcasts! Now you know where the development resources spent their time…
Yeah, I know. I’m wondering which Plex customer is interested in podcasts and web shows…
From how I understand, different developers do different things. Maybe they have 5 devs for PVR and 10 other devs doing nothing, so give them something to do instead of reassign them to the pvr group. I don’t know, I could be wrong…
I’ve seen a lot of different projects where the salesperson says that their product does this and that and all this stuff. Technically, yes, Plex now has web shows, podcast support, the old library, live tv, pvr, etc… Just read the fine print and that’s where things start disappearing. And a lot of these things you don’t find out about until after you pay for the subscription and start seeing it.
Until Plex starts to refine the different areas, I think we’re going to continue to see these new things popping up while issues exist still in other areas.
Don’t get me wrong, I still like Plex but there are things being marketed that I don’t think they’ve fully implemented yet.
