WHERE IS THE SUPPORT?

Perhaps it’s time for Plex to cut down on the myriad of clients that are supported? They should concentrate on a smaller range of mainstream clients that are properly supported e.g. iOS, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, web browser & PMP. Plex must have figures for what clients are being used so can drop any minority players e.g. any with less than 10% ‘market share’.

While I do think that there are too many “features” and “fluff” in the Plexiverse I do not think that Plex should “cut back” mainly because once a client is supported or a feature added removing that feature/client or stopping support for the same will cause more problems for Plex than continued support ever could.

You cannot put the genie back in the bottle.

There are a number of clients that the Plex app is not supported on but many of those are either devices that were never officially supported in the first place or they are devices that support has been discontinued by the manufacturer as well.

I do believe there should be nothing more added until all the bugs are fixed and the features/client apps finished. Plex needs to get their overall system stable and complete before trying any further expansion.

Far more Windows users than Roku, but I’m sure Roku is a bigger concern. Again, the whole web thing sucks.

I have two Shield TVs, two Roku sticks, two Android phones, two iPhones, and a NUC running embedded PMP, but only a single Windows PC that I use to manage the server. I’ll go out on a ledge and say that Windows clients are vastly outnumbered. And, since only Plex knows the actual numbers, I’ll trust that they have more information than we do and are in a much better position to determine where their resources should be applied when it comes to supporting various devices.

I think there are certain areas where there doesn’t seem to be much support - many posts over in the Android section regarding sync not working well (or at all) and barely any responses. It’s frustrating to post something and not even get any sort of acknowledgement.

I stopped being frustrated by Plex’s inability to develop a stable Plex app for AFTV, LOOOONNNNG AGO. The accompanying feeling of despair with the high volumes of inactivity (indicating a ‘don’t care’ attitude) on the part of Plex to improve user relations and along with it their AFTV app, have also waned. It’s simply a sore spot now, like Rigby Reardon’s bullet hole in ‘Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid (1982)’. That thing ain’t never gonna heal.

Oh, we get promises that’s it’s all gonna change. Parades, Fireworks, The High School Marching Band and free BBQ and cole-slaw at the big virtual picnic.

Then we get crickets.

Nope - that bullet hole is still seeping a bit.

The “don’t care” attitude is what it really feels like…I wish that at least the Plex Pass members had some way of logging issues and getting feedback.

If I recall your experience is only with the original Amazon Fire TV. I have never had a problem with Plex on the Amazon Fire TV 4K.

Uh, huh… apparently you stand among those with the lucky horse shoe embedded deep into your aura.

That’s all I have time for right now, but if I can find 'em surely Plex can find 'em. I have no elite skills in that area, but am available to reveal how I do it - nutshell: I read the Amazon Forum.

It doesn’t change a thing about Plex’s lack of support, but for what it’s worth apparently Kodi + one of the addons (Plex for Kodi which is plexpass only for now, PlexKodiConnect and PlexBMC) works very well on the AFTV. Could be a workaround for now.

Unfortunately that scenario doesn’t help those of us that sync.

Sync on a FireTV?

or those of us not well versed in the fine art of hacking our AFTVs - something one would ideally want to avoid by having a Plex Server/Client relationship - I mean in a perfect world.

The best possible scenario would be for the guy that created that ‘work-around’ app, to take the next logical step and just create a decent Plex app for AFTV - and sell it. Where can I send my money? It’s fairly obvious by now a third party developer is going to be the only solution to this problem. Plex is unable or unwilling at this point - by all indications.

But for a little ‘Feel-Good’ medicine for everybody - here’s an old bug that’s now into it’s second year:
https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/216659/amazon-fire-tv-theme-music-no-longer-plays-after-upgrade-to-fire-os-5

I’m not sure what that illustrates to you guys, but I’m sure I know what it illustrates to me.

Now that Live TV is out of the door I’m hoping we’ll see more activity on other parts of the product again. My gut feeling is that most of the devs were pretty involved in that (although it’s just speculating)

seriously, what kind of company doesn’t even have direct technical support for its customers, they make you go on some forum and try to make other customers answer your questions? that’s terrible. i should be able to email a support professional and receive a reasonably prompt response.

instead I’ve posted the same question on here 3 times over a month and never gotten a single response and can’t use the service at all.

totally unacceptable lack of support for their product. i shouldn’t need to be some kind of computer hacker just to get a roku app to work. ugg.

Agreeing with Chris_Horner. I’m a newbie and while I had the server telling me all ok and everything else ok, I don’t understand how to get Google Music songs (mostly my own cd collection, with downloads too) into Plex. Supposed to be easy. But I don’t understand the language used. I tried to get support and even went as far as to message Billing - that went through!!! But of course, no response. I HATE when you can’t get decent support so uninstalled and am now looking for another place to put my music that isn’t Google, iTunes or Groove…

A post was split to a new topic: My plex froze on me and I can’t get it to get off my tv
