TL;DR
Apple TV 4K is accumulating lot of bugs for quite a long time and Plex doesn’t seem to care at all fixing them.
Unfortunately even Plex being a paid subscription (and not a cheap one) service sustained for a lot of people through Plex Pass it seems that this isn’t enough for them to have a dedicated team to take care of Apple TV segment to fix bugs.
Right now the subtitles are a totally mess being presented in a awful way that a lot of people (including myself) can’t stand.
There’s a lack of optimisation in a lot of areas like pushing the menu up when something is playing will give you some bugs in the scrolling and can’t even get you to the menu, and finally the new player seems that can’t buffer the files properly and sometimes you get stuttering playback and not a smooth play.
Infuse do not have any of these problems so it’s not entirely an Apple TV limitation.
These are the most important bugs right now but there are others small bugs too. It’s sad as a lot of people using the app pays for Plex Pass and are just giving up and jumping to Infuse due the lack of Plex app support for Apple TV.
The admins here doesn’t even seems to care as they don’t answer usually and when they rarely say something they give vague answers as “we are looking into it” not giving any proper feedback or ETA of fixing these bugs.
Sorry for the rant, I wouldn’t do it if I don’t care for using Plex, it’s the opposite, I really wish that I could use it without these bugs.
There are a TON of bugs in the Android TV app as well that don’t get any attention either.
I feel/relate to this post very strongly - have had Emby running in parallel for quite some time now, but recently have started to use it because I have been so frustrated with Plex’s response/direction this past year.
I have posted nearly a dozen bugs and barely got a response.
Meanwhile, looking over at the Emby forums, there’s only a few Administrators and they respond to almost every thread - there is one dude over there with almost 200k posts - he is on almost every thread, no matter the size. Refreshing to see.
Spreading themselves too thinly creating new features and updated look and feel while neglecting the basics. I would rather them consolidate even if they didn’t support my current Sony TV or Chromecast and I had to buy new hardware if I knew it was going to be properly supported. Even a paid supported monthly DVR subscription would be preferable to the current situation. We have to pay for Virgin TV currently anyway as my partners eyes just glaze over as I try to explain work arounds for basics features like watching an in progress recording on Android which has been broken again for the last several months.
I can’t say I have seen either of these issues.
The latter especially as I have a lot of 4K HDR remuxes and don’t recall the last time the ATV 4K buffered.
But also let’s not paint some rosy picture of infuse. It has plenty of issues of it’s own.
I still use both Plex and Infuse often and the tone mapped on the fly video preview thumbs are incredible as is the Trakt integration.
However I don’t own 20 movies but nor do I imagine is my library in any way large (compared to others) at 1400 movies. Yet after several years of requests there is still no alphabetical jump list.
If I know exactly what I plan to watch I often use Infuse. If I’m planning on casually browsing for something to watch then Infuse is completely dead in the water.
If infuse sort the alphabetical jump list and also sort their genre filters it may get more love from me. Purely because Trakt and easily rating my media is extremely important to me.
Infuse lacks several features Plex have (and keep growing) however it do the basics just right. I’m a heavy subtitle user as I have tons of foreign content and it’s just impossible to what stuff in Plex the way it it’s now.
It gets even worse as the big picture is worse than this single problem, as like people constantly complain, Plex support is horrible and paying a monthly subscription or 150 euros for a lifetime subscription with this kind of support is…just awful.
Only at the moment it appears they are not doing enough of either, unless it involves developing new things, which lets face it is a lot more fun than bug fixing.
Somebody @elan needs to prioritize the work so when basic features regress for the umpteenth time like being able to watch an in progress recording on android, they don’t stay like that for several months.
Mods already answered people question after this topic was created by me but they didn’t bothered to come here say anything. It’s just sad to know that they don’t care about transparency and their users at all.
Also the title of this thread is bizarre.
Without actually reading it I would simply see the topic as another “Screw this I’m off to Emby” type thread…and definitely not as a support request.
Over the many years I’ve had plex and been on thís forum it’s very apparent that request 90+% of the time are ignored, even ones with many votes. I could give many examples but what’s the point…
I myself have raised many of bugs (not requests BUGS) with regressions when compared to previous versions or when compared to other plex clients on other platforms to again have them ignored.
Its really pointless giving feedback. Plex will only respond if it’s a major breakage. Other than that you just have to live with what you have.
You’re right it’s a total clickbait strategy to get someone attention to help. But people that pay 100+ for something that doesn’t have support are the wrongs ones, for at least some people that take Plex back without making any fu** sense.
You like the pleasure to have lack of support and be ignored? lol
