Where's the next PLEX version?

It’s been over a month since the last PLEX version was released.

Is there any big update coming we can expect? Or what’s the reason to interrupt the previous regular updates routine?

I suspect they may have all hands on deck working on the New Plex Experience Roku debacle…

Been waiting a minute for anything new myself, like the Android TV new experience.

Hoping the Roku-related findings will make PLEX for other platforms even better!

Working the kinks out of the updated transcoder.

I have to admit that I didn’t even notice that we’ve switched… which I guess is the best news they could hope for. :stuck_out_tongue:

I sure hope Plex figures this out soon. I am running PMS on a Mac mini Pro M4 and use Apple TV 4K units. Plex has been a hot mess for a few months (long spinners when trying to view content only to have it fail). In the meantime, I have started using Infuse Pro which has handled everything I have tried to view from my Plex library (and it even looks much sharper on my 75” Samsung). I’ve been a lifetime Plex member for 14 years…but I can only handle so many complaints from family members (“Daaaaad, why can’t I watch my show”). My wife is even referring to Plex as “Siri” lately. That’s a pretty low insult. My advice to Plex would be to copy what Infuse is doing - it works (very, very well).

Folks,

Please do not forget this is a full upgrade of the transcoder from version 4.2 → 6.1

Chris has found a few small problems which he has to fix before EVERYONE runs into them when launched.

I’m currently testing PlexMediaServer-1.43.1.10337-03e2dd023.

IF I understand correctly, this will be up next and then pushed to Public.

PLEASE do not be upset if I’m mistaken but this is where I’m at in testing release candidates.

I cannot speak to apps (I’m the Linux guy)

Just tried out the 1.43.0.10346 and it has resolved all of the play issues I encountered over the last couple months. Thanks for your hard work. Peace in the household once again…

Hello,

where can i find the link to download latest version PlexMediaServer-1.43.1 ?

You can’t. That’s some Plex internal testing („alpha“).
You can only go for the new beta released yesterday.

Version 1.43.0.10346 just appeared as an available update!

so do you advise me to wait more or this beta release is fine enough ?

Fine enough for what?

Release Notes: Plex Media Server - #694 by PlexReleaser

not having too much trooble with transcode

It’s beta, you’re right. The latest stable is v.1.42.2.10156.

1.43.0.10346 is a beta release.

Beta releases, by their nature, have less testing and are generally less stable than public releases.

As mentioned in the release notes, this beta release includes the updated transcoder, based on FFMPEG 6.1.

If you are not comfortable running such software, then stay on the public releases.

If you are comfortable with beta releases, then by all means load it, test it, and report any problems. Doing so will help the developers and the entire Plex community.

I was confortable but last beta broke the database and no backup working at all : i lost everything and have to reinstall from scratch (i know that’s the game but…)

You can choose to host your Plex server on a filesystem that supports snapshotting. Then you just make a snapshot before you deploy the update, and if things fall apart you can just roll back. The only downside is you would lose any updates to play queues that happened after you updated, or changes to library metadata (you’d need to rescan media files and reselect posters/thumbnails if you changed them).

@YOS92

Did you completely nuke the installation (uninstall it) ?

If not, you can roll back the DB to a backup version

yes it was when database log were very big, i’ve tried to restore backup but it doesn’t work :frowning:
so i decide to unintall & reinstall from scratch
