Which is better Nvidia Shield 2019 or QNAP NAS [Quad 4 Alpine AL-324 quad-core 1.7 ]

Which hardware is better for a Plex Media Server;
Nvidia Shiels 2019 or a QNAP NAS [Alpine AL-324 quad-core 1.7 GHz Cortex-A57 processor (64-bit)]?
Thank you
Mario

That’ll depend on the specific QNAP model and your particular use case.
According to the NAS compatibility matrix, the QNAP models with that class of chips might have a hard time to deal with transcoding.

Thank you for your reply, I though that one would better the other.

Hi
One more question
If you had both and you are the only user and would use plex to store and view movies and photos you have stored, using remotely once or twice a year,
which would you use?
Nvidia Shield 2019 or the QNAP TS-332X
Thank you for your help
Mario

At gunpoint probably the Shield

Thank You for your help

Currently, Plex on the Nvidia Shield does not support hardware transcoding, so take that into account when you’re doing the comparison.

Thanks again for the reply
This is what I have noticed and the reason for my post.
Plex loads fast when I open it from Windows 11 desktop and Roku, however, when I open Plex from the Nvidia Shield, it takes minutes to open.
This tells me that the issue is not with plex but with the Shield.
Before the Android 11 and fix update, it used to load as fast as the other two platforms.
Thank You
Mario

i used to use my shield as a server and external harddrive to store the media. but one day on a shield update it fried my external drive. i also found when random power outages things could get wonky really quick. I moved to running it in a synology ds920+ (connected to a UPS battery backup) and its been more stable for me.

I’m sure if you get the shield running the server perfectly then it is great. I used it for many months that way. But with shield tv updates and plex updates etc. it seemed the reliability of using my synology was better suited for me. Either way, i’d hook whatever you are going to run the server on up to a ups battery back up. Plex server doesn’t like randomly getting disconnected from power. Neither does the shield.
