Why am I seeing COMMERCIALS in my CONTENT?

Server Version#: 1.41.0.8994
Player Version#: 1.102.0.230-7301ebfb

I’m getting “commercials” in the middle of my content. I’m a PLEX PASS holder and I have my server on a Windows Server 2019. Everything was fine, then one day, PLEX COMMERCIALS> How do I stop this? I am NOT using the PLEX ad supported service, I’m watching videos that are on MY SERVER and they are adding commercials to the content.

Your not. The server has no technical ability to do that.

What do you have pinned from sidebar. Where are you starting playback from? Which client are you using?

If you have Movies and Shows pinned it will have it’s content on the home screen as well.

Pinned to the side “PlexServer2019” under that is “4K Videos,” “Movies,” “Music,” " Playlists," “TV Shows.” Then there’s a section called “PLEX” under that is “Discover,” “Live TV,” “Movies & Shows,” and “Watchlists.” When I watch a show it’s from the PlexServer2019 section NOT the PLEX section. And it happens on my Plex app on my Windows PC as Well as the Plex App on my Google TV.

Show us screen shots of what you see at each step

To be clear I am talking about things that are pinned. It sounds like you are describing what you see when you click on “MORE” at the bottom which shows everything not just pinned.

Also just to be sure. If you are watching a movie and a trailer shows at the start that would be Cinema trailers which is a Plex Pass feature. https://support.plex.tv/articles/202934883-cinema-trailers-extras/#toc-1

I have NOT had this happen in a MOVIE, only TV shows. I have “HOME,” “Watchlist,” “Movies & Shows,” “Live TV,” “Discover,” “Movies,” “TV Shows,” “Music,” “4k Videos,” “Downloads,” “More.” I click the more tab and select TV shows from under the PlexServer2019.

That second thing “Movies and Shows” is our on demand streaming service that has commercials…

Do you have Watch State Syncing enabled in your account settings?

That “TV Shows” should be your same PlexServer2019 server library as when you click on MORE. in the web app ( assuming you do not have access to more than one server or have multiple TV library. The pinned libraries are essentially favorites.

When on the home screen you can rearrange the pinned sources on the home screen to be above our on demand sources by clicking on the dots to the left of one of the lilbrary names and choosing “reorder” then drag by the handle to move it above. You can also un-pin the any on demand stuff.

Plex

if you never plan to use it and you want to disable the on demand Movies & Shows you can do that in the Online Media Source settings https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/online-media-sources

but if you are going directly to the library and hitting play there instead of the home screen the only thing I can think of is it is a commercials in content recorded via DVR but I’m not sure if you have that set up.

With how many times Plex has to respond to this happening, you would think they would make it more clear to end users when they’re playing content from Plex’s commercial service vs. a user’s own server…

I have a feeling this is one of those confusing things like the remote access red/green light that they will be stubborn about for years.

I will jump on board for clear identifiers. I found this because I thought they had somehow added ads before content in my library. I think I’ve watched plex items a handful of times in 5 years with my server. I’m logged into my account (plex pass) on my parents device. On my home screen “Continue Watching” is the TV show I’ve been following. I click that and choose the episode…2 30 second ads. Back out and try again, same thing. Reboot, same thing. Had no earthly idea that it was somehow taking me to the plex version of that show from my home screen. Went to my version under my “TV Shows” folder and no ads…do better Plex. Never watched that show using their servers.

You’re one of the gang now!
