Why are recordings limited to certain folders?

Whose brilliant idea was it to force Live TV recording of a “movie” to only be allowed to be saved to a folder that contains movies? I have a general “DVR” folder where I want recordings saved. Period. I do not want them intermingled with my actual ripped Movie content. Yet, because my “DVR” folder is set to hold TV Shows, I can’t specify it as a destination for a Movie that I’m recording from OTA.

This is yet another stupid thing that Plex does…

because tv show and movie libraries are inherently different. where movies are single items and tv shows have a season structure.

While I will agree that there is a difference, the TV Show structure of needing to use Season and Episode naming structure makes it the more complex of the two. TV Movies can easily be saved into a generic folder to represent the Season with the name of the movie being used to represent the Episode.

When you record a movie off of TV and it gets sorted into a folder with 2600 of its closest friends, it makes it impossible to find. It’s a stupid way to do it.

that is why there is a Recently Added hub

I hate that feature. It does not suit my needs and is nothing but a kludge.

Movies should be able to be recorded into a general folder like I use. Period.

I think it’s a fairly common, and recommended, practice to create separate DVR-only libraries for recorded content. For example, on my system I’ve created “DVR TV Shows” and “DVR Movies” libraries, in addition to my standard TV and Movie ones. When choosing the destination for a recording, I choose the one appropriate for the content. When the next recording is scheduled, it defaults to the last chosen library of a particular type (TV or Movie).

By default, these will integrate with your “Recently Added…” and “On Deck” hubs.

You can filter the library by date added as well

Or, I can create a new Library and point it to the same folder as another library. Have one that records TV shows and one that records Movies. Same file location for both. Asinine workaround.
