For some strange reason, Plex is not detecting episodes of the new TV series, The Morning Show. I have tried multiple file types on laptops with different operating systems, but Plex simply does not detect this TV show at all. Can anyone explain?
Public Enemy #1 when this happens used to be poor naming and structuring, but now has been replaced by TVDB being a smoldering wreck after the deployment of their âbrand new engineâ, they deployed a while back to discover it was a 3 layer fail cake. Theyâre trying again with limited success, but they and Plex are âworking on itâ.
In the meantime:
Fix your file names and structures - if required:
https://support.plex.tv/articles/categories/your-media/naming-and-organizing-tv-shows/
They should like something like this if youâre one of âThe Few, The Proud, The WhackJobsâ that use FileBot (or follow the naming instructions meticulously):
and Please Stand By⊠(check now and then for - something different).
I had the good fortune to have had this show aboard before the TVDB explosion - so for me new episodes are gathering. New additions will be troublesome - for a while. A short while - we hope. I just had FileBot gather the episode name for E05 - so thatâs different than the last time I tried. Things are looking up.
Breaking news thread you may want to follow:
Well, why wouldnât it? They have everything going through Australia so youâre first in line!

Itâs working for me. New episode was populated without issue.
I best relay it back state side then, it must be lost.
I will have to change the Name of the show, The next Day morning show.
It travels a bit slow underwater.
Please clarify: are you saying that the year has to be included in the name of the show folder and of each episode file? I only do that when the db itself includes the year (for disambiguation), as with âThe Americansâ, for example.
https://thetvdb.com/series/the-morning-show
TVDB uses: âThe Morning Showâ - no year.
Exactly like this:
That doesnât mean you wonât have to Fix Match.
Yeah, I know. I was referring to all the other shows in your screenshot. I clicked the reply button on your specific post but my reply seems to have just been appended to the bottom of the thread so itâs not clear to what I was referring.
I was hoping you were replying to me⊠anyway⊠in dayâs past the (YEAR) didnât seem to matter except for shows that have remakes. the Filebot trick is âall or noneâ so I set FB to âAllâ mode without much issue.
Now a (YEAR) field in every file is evil - so we no longer do that.
Now we name exactly as TVDB names them - and we Fix Match often 'cause Plex and TVDB simply fail to get any match.
Got it.
I have the same issue as the OP. Added TMS just under three weeks ago, been trying to get the metadata ever since. Tried the âmatchâ command a few times, didnât work. Just tried it again and voila! success. Finally.
Well slap my mouth!
lol
Do you also know the TVDB ID# trick? Youâre very likely going to need to that that trick in your bag.
Donât think so. Gimme!
unfortunately this isnât a new problem, its been going on (maybe not consistently) ever since the big tvdb changes.
Go there and find the ID# in the upper right.
If you get nothing or a bad match put that ID# in the Search Option âTitle Fieldâ remove everything else and TVDB should produce an instant listing and subsequent instant match.
to add. There actually is a bit of wiggle room as it were because like a google search there is a certain level of âthis is the most popular selection when âThe Americansâ is searched forâ so even if you did not add in (2013) it would have likely selected that one.

Plex will also look at the year of first airing episode
meaning if you actually wanted https://www.thetvdb.com/series/the-americans name it The Americans (1961)
Personally I add the year to everything, if I know it, as IMO it rarely hurts.
That once was the case - no longer.
At least that is what Users helping Users are finding.
and we seem to be finding it way more often than Plex is.
give me an example of a show where it hurts and exactly how you named it
The Plex DVR uses the year in both the folder and filenames, so Iâm going to continue to use that as my reference for âhow it should be done.â Until it fails, that is.
