I lost internet connectivity yesterday. It might be a couple of days until we can get a new modem and get back up. In the mean time, I can stream from my local server to my android apps, but when I try to open the plex media player, or the web server through http://localhost:32400/web/index.html, it says I need an internet connection to do so. The only way I was able to access the server today was to connect my pc to my phone using a wireless hotspot, and give it internet through my 3G connection.
This is a serious flaw in my opinion. We need to be able to access our content when the internet cuts out.
I can’t always remember what episode I am on, and try and find it in the hundreds of episodes on disk.
I accept that its an authentication issue, but seeing as its a server, can’t it store my credentials?
My phone and tablet does, and they are able to sign in. Why can’t I do the same from any other unit?
When the Internet goes out at my house, I just use Roku Media Player to access my content over DLNA. The server still keeps track of what I watch too. Pretty much every media device should have a DLNA client.
The DLNA server built in to Plex Media Server will be disabled completely. DLNA access does not use a specific user account and so it would have full access to all of your media. Thus, it’s disabled by default here to help keep your media safe.

I do have plex home. And I think that since the Android apps can store user authentication info, why cant plex media player?
If there is an issue with Plex Media Player Preview - suggest you raise it on the Plex Media Player Preview Releases forum. Would expect client apps to cache credentials of last user so would expect to work if no user switching
