Why did you break my setup?

I have a 2 year old version of Plex server running on a Raspberry Pi, and access it via a Roku stick.

A week or two ago I got the notice that I’d have to update my server or Plex would quit working Today Plex quit working.

For reasons that don’t matter I can’t update my server version. My existing setup was working just fine. I only use Plex to access my local video and music files.

How do I get my Plex back?

As the clients get updated they require newer versions of the server so new features will work.
Since there is no way to stop the Roku channels from updating, and you can’t roll back to older versions, there isn’t much you can do.
If you want to use Plex without ever updating the server you would probably have to use an Android based client where you could prevent updates.

I have several Android devices that are working fine.
Is your Server an older version?

At least you got a two week notice, most software just breaks down.
Get a new Pi4 and new version of Plex server.
Or get an old PC and run it as the server.
It shouldn’t be that hard.

In June 2018 I paid a neighbor to set this up. He’s since moved away and I have no way to contact him. I don’t know the passwords. The only issue I’ve ever had is when I lose power, then I unplug the pi for a few seconds and plug it back in. Evidently my pi boots faster than my NAS and this causes problems.

Being on a fixed income saying “get a new Pi4 and start over” doesn’t go over very well. If memory serves I paid $100 or so for the pi, power supply, case, and SDC card. And another $50 to the neighbor.

The whole point of Plex is that it’s easy to set up. Get an old PC running windows 7, create a new account in Plex.tv and tell plex where the video files are, and you are all set. Anyone can set up a media server by himself/herself, this is the beauty of Plex.
In Microcenter there are $100 computers for sale, and they are good enough for Plex. If you can afford a NAS, you can definitely afford a $100 PC.
