Why do my Plex apps (windows & xbox) show two alphabetical indexes in the music library?

Both in Windows and Xbox, when I go to my music library and view by artist titles, I see 2 sets of alphabetical indexes down the right side of the screen. For example if I click on the uppermost “A” I see A-ha, Aerosmith, and Al Jarreau. If I click on the lowermost “A” I see A Tribe Called Quest, A-ha (again) and ABC. Can anyone tell me why my library is making two sets of indexes?

Would you mind sharing a screenshot?
Which version of those apps are you using and what version of PMS?

You tagged this with the ‘windows-store-app’ tag. If you really mean the Plex app that was in the Windows app store, it was discontinued a couple years ago. You should be using the Plex for Windows app instead.

This doesn’t explain the Xbox, of course, and it may not be the cause of the issue in Windows. Just wanted to eliminate the variable.

Hello Beckfield,
I tagged it the closest I could find in the list. Yes it is the Plex for windows app.

Hello tom80H,
I’m currently running version 1.24.0.4930 on a Windows Server. As another data point I get the same from the Plex Web client Version 4.59.2.
Here is a shot from the “top A”:

And here is a shot from the “bottom A”:

The screen shots were from the Web client, but the same results are reflected in plex for windows and xbox.

Do you see the same if accessing Plex Web via https://app.plex.tv/desktop?

That’s using a newer version of the web frontend

Are you using other types of Plex clients as well, apart from the web app and the xbox? If so, does the issue appear on there as well?

I’d check for a damaged database:

  1. activate debug logging (not ‘verbose’!)
  2. quit Plex Server
  3. wait 1 minute
  4. start Plex Server
  5. wait 5 minutes
  6. fetch log files and attach them here

Or inspect them yourself. Take a look at the Plex Media Server.log file and seek for messages about database corrupt or malformed.
If you find these, you may have to repair your database.
