Plex Alphabetical Listing (right side) Mysteriously Missing

My brother and me have our own servers. We both run Plux on Unraid. We both have the same versions of all the software, etc. On my server, I have no issues. On his, he HAD no issues until he randomly asked me today about it because it STOPPED showing about a month ago. Specifically, the alphabet listing that runs down the right side of the screen has disappeared. At first, I told him to check his settings, which we can’t seem to find anything the would correspond. Then I had him check his various players (TV, Xbox, etc). They all have the same results. It looks like he only has the letters on one library, but not any of the others (he has about 10). I even checked it remotely from my house, and I can only see the letters on the same library as him. We’ve compared our settings and they all match. I saw similar posts from people suggesting things like making sure it’s set to “All → TV Shows → By Title” (for example). All of his libraries are set like that. I even went as far as to change it to something else, like “By Year” just to see if mine would disappear like it should (and it does), then switch it back and it reappears. We’re just not sure what else there is to look at. Any help would be great.

I definitely think it’s a bug. Going remote, on my Xbox, I can see his letters on some of them but not all of them. I’ve not changed any settings, they are exactly the same as mine. So only some of them on the Xbox. BUT if I switch to my Firestick, I can see the letters in ALL of them. Then as a test, we had him switch over to his Smart TV’s Plex. It showed the letters in some libraries but not all. He never uses his TV’s client, so the odd’s of it being misconfigured are slim. It’s not a server side issue, since my Firestick can see the letters in all of them. It might be a client issue, but my Xbox One X shows the letters on libraries that HIS Xbox Series X does not. So…?

Brother’s Setup:

  • Unraid v 6.9.2
  • PLEX v 4.63.0
  • Xbox Series X Plex Client v 5.27.3
  • Xbox Series X Plex Platform v 10.0.22000.2656
  • Vizio TV Client v 5.27.3
  • Vizio TV Platform v 2.3.0-2125.0001

My Setup:

  • Unraid v 6.9.2
  • PLEX v 4.63.0
  • Xbox One X Plex Client v 5.27.3
  • Xbox One X Plex Platform v 10.0.22000.2656
  • LG TV Client v5.27.3
  • LG TV Platform v 4.9.0
  • Firestick Client ?? v 8.23.2.28087 (9f2ee47b)

The alphabet index will only show if you have a certain amount of items in your library (e.g. tv-shows, movies…).

That makes sense, but I don’t think that’s the answer… Why would it show up on one client (remember, my Firestick showed it in ALL of his libraries) and not in others (like his and mine Xbox’s)?

Sorting perhaps?
AFAIK, it only shows if sorting by title

Yeah we checked that. See my first post “I saw similar posts from people suggesting things like making sure it’s set to “All → TV Shows → By Title” (for example). All of his libraries are set like that. I even went as far as to change it to something else, like “By Year” just to see if mine would disappear like it should (and it does), then switch it back and it reappears.”.

Check for a damaged database.

Also, what version of PMS?

There was an issue that was fixed in 1.23

Collections type has active: false despite being the only type #12658

I will have him try this next time I talk to him.

Sorry for my lack of knowledge… what is PMS?

Plex Media Server

It stands for Plex Media Server.

Jinx! You owe me a coke! Lol

Oh  We’re both using 4.63.0 (see my OP)

First of all sorry for taking things for granted

That’s sadly not the PMS version, but the version of the WebClient

See: Where is the Plex version to be found? - #4 by beckfield

Ok, it’s 1.24.5.5173

Then sadly wasn’t it, but worth a shot
