Why does a friend get logged in as myself?

I have shared my plex with several friends over the last year with no problems at all. Recently I changed my plex media server over to a new pc and started with a fresh install. I started noticing one of my “Friends” kept watching things that showed up in my activity log as my crowned user watching it rather than my friend. After looking more into it I noticed it only happens when he watches things on his iphone. When he watches from his appletv or roku it will show it as his friend name watching stuff. But when he watches anything from his iphone it says its my username watching it. So I called him up and asked him about it, he checked his iphone and it says rather than being logged in under his plex account, it shows him logged in as my username. I have never logged into plex from any device he owns or even from any of my devices at his house.

I have attempted to remove him and re-add him as a friend multiple times and the problem keeps occurring.

This is troublesome to me for multiple reasons. For one if plex is logging him in as me, he then has full control over my server and can delete files or libraries. Another issue is that he said along with being logged in as me he had full access to other friends that had shared their libraries with me. Those people would not be happy if they knew some random friend of mine that they don’t know has access to their server.

Has anyone seen this happen before? If you have any ideas on how to resolve this I would greatly appreciate the help.

I recommend you follow the instructions here: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/comment/1029089/#Comment_1029089

If you see it happening after doing the above, you need to change your password as well. Might want to do it now anyways. Never hurts.

As for why it might’ve happened… have you ever setup the Plex Home feature? Maybe he guessed your password? Those are the only things that come to mind.

Thanks for the link. I did remove his Iphone from the list of devices. I feel with 100% certainty that my password has not been compromised. This is a very old and trustworthy friend that would have no reason for logging into my account. He has full access to my server from his account.

I do have plex home, I have a managed user set up for my child to restrict her access by movie and tv rating.

Have you ever tried adding this particular friend to your Home? If so, and you didn’t have a PIN on your admin account, perhaps he switched to your account on his iPhone and never switched back? https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/203960236-Consequences-of-Being-in-a-Plex-Home

If I were you, I think I’d step back and monitor now if you deleted his iPhone. Since he’s a close friend and you’re not worried he’s attempting anything nefarious, your risk seems low enough.

This is the most likely.
