Why does my samsung TV plex app require an internet connection? Is there a way round this?

I have a local network with a QNAP NAS serving media to my samsung TVs using the Plex app. The app either doesn’t start at all or if it does it can’t connect to the NAS. When trying to add the NAS again it says it can’t access it because of security settings needing internet access.
I do not have a permanent internet connection on my network, so I need a way to play my local media. Is this possible?

Emby does local auth I believe, but since Emby is run by a company just like Plex who knows if it will stay that way long term. Probably would be best to change to the server not connected to any corporate entity (Jellyfin). It’s been this way on Plex for like +5 years now. My samsung TV does not have any other client apps as it isn’t android. It is a pain that even when streaming my own local files Plex needs internet access for no good reason

Good or not, it’s a platform restriction of the OS for those smart TVs

Well, I’m using Emby instead now. Their app doesn’t require an active internet connection (so that means it’s not an OS requirement either).
