Internet Out -- Can't connect to local server. No surprises

Server Version#: 1.25.6
Player Version#: 4.69.1

For the past 3 days we’ve been without internet access. Despite having Plex installed onto my local QNAP NAS and player’s both on my Sony Smart TV (android) and Desktop browser (everything the latest version), Plex player refuses to connect to the local NAS unless i have internet access. If there is a setting which is causing this problem, please, developers remove this worthless setting.

What is amusing is Plex displays a screen stating i can connect locally without internet access. That’s a total lie. The smart TV and desktop apps are all signed in as Managed Users but Plex refuses to make the connection locally. The moment i gave Plex internet access (temporary Mobile USB tethering to my router) then and only then did Plex finally bypass its “phone home?” request to move on to connect locally.

For christ-sakes why do you developers always insist upon phoning home and internet access for everything?! Dont you have any fallback plan in the event of no internet access? Sheesh.

I’d request a bug fix but in this case it would be called a “new feature”. Let’s face it, most company’s dont add or change things until some bigger fish does it, then let the industry-wide cloning begin. Capitalism at its finest.

Just my rant. Ignore away.

I’ll point you to https://forums.plex.tv/t/howto-use-plex-with-no-internet/383325 as a start about how to use Plex without Internet. A few minutes searching on the forums will no doubt bring you more information.

Plex does work without Internet but there are things you have to do before you lose Internet service. Using DLNA is also an option.

Yeah, I agree that Plex ought to make things easier in that regard but take the necessary steps now.
