This TV show the season, episode, number, and name are all correct and I have then in the correct format. I have it set up the correct way like this.
Name - S01E01 - Episode, but Plex gets everything wrong.
Without more detail, we will not be able to help you much. It matters a lot which tv show we are talking about, since there can be different lists of episode number, titles and order. What matters to Plex is what is used at thetvdb.com
With tv shows, also the whole folder structure where the files reside in, is very important, so please don’t leave that out.
Is the file a mp4/m4v container?
If so:
Go to
- Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB
In there, grab the line ‘Local Media Assets’ with your mouse and drag it downwards, so it ends up being at the bottom of the stack of active agents.
Repeat the same under
- Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheMovieDatabase
- Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
- Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - TheMovieDatabase
Afterwards, Refresh Metadata of the whole show.
Was the file misrecognized before and you renamed it just now?
Perform the Plex Dance
Show is Beavis and Butt-Head and it’s season based, they are MKV files, Plex named them incorrectly and I renamed them.
Details please. What was the wrong title? Which season and episode number is the file using?
It gave the wrong title for every episode, all the seasons are wrong with the wrong episode.
Then compare your files with what TheTVDB has listed.
Yeah I have, Plex has the right season and episode number for the files but not the correct episode name.
Then please continue with the rest of my first post.
So I have to continue manually naming these files for Plex?
You lost me there. Were your files incorrectly named at first?
I am referring to embedded metadata within your files.
I am giving all the metadata a title name using MKVToolNix, they did not have them before, but even when I added that and refresh metadata for Plex they still were wrong.
Plex only reads embedded metadata from mp4 files. The titel tag in a MKV file is not accessible to Plex.
Edit the whole show, go to the ‘Advanced’ tab. What have you set for ‘Episode Ordering’?
Please give an example with file name, the expected episode title and the current episode title shown in Plex.
Edit the show how? For episode ordering, I don’t understand what you mean. I will get you an example.
The show is appearing in Plex. You can hover your mouse over the title of the show (not the title of the episode!) and click on it. This will bring you to the pre-play screen of the whole show, where you can click on the ellipsis ⋮ and then on ‘Edit’.
I found the problem, I had the show on DVD order, changed it to air date.
