Why does Plex struggle with very high bitrate 4K, but VLC plays them just fine? I set everything to direct play, but anything over 8mb/s has problems. When I try to adjust this, where it says ‘play original’ quality, the highest is 8mb/s.. Does that mean Plex is not capable of anything over 8mb/s ??
I am trying to watch a movie that is like 30mb/s and I can watch it flawlessly on VLC, but on Plex it just skips and skips..
I am using Nvidia SHIELD new version. All updates to server and client are current.
When I ran the nerd mode, it looks like Plex is transcoding the audio. It says that eAC3 audio is not supported by the device, which is weird. I thought that was the most common format there is? I tried another file and it says TrueHD audio is not supported either. It looks like all the audio is getting transcoded, for no apparent reason.
I tried my other Nvidia Shield and everything plays fine on my other 4K TV in my office.. I don’t usually watch movies there. So there must be some setting on the other SHIELD that is messing with the audio on my movies. But like I said, I can watch movies on VLC player and they play perfectly on this shield. Only plex is having the issue. It must be some setting on the Plex client?
AC3 is very common.
E-AC3 is some kind of successor. Since some of the patents connected to E-AC3 were valid until January this year, direct E-AC3 support is still absent from many devices.
