Why is it so hard, to find the latest update to Plex Media Server?

I used to use Plex but stopped a few years back. This past Sunday. 6/24/2018, I decided to start reusing Plex. I have an Amazon Fire TV player, loaded a Plex app on it, and a Plex Media Server, on my PC. But before using I signed up for a Plex Pass. Now, my PC shows no server for Plex, and the Fire TV shows a NEED for version 1.3.0.0. or higher, for it to work. The PC Plex, is 1.13.2.5154, so it seems I need to update it to a higher version, YET PLEX DOES A BAD JOB OF MAKING THEM AVAILABLE. I simply can’t find an update, so that means Plex is useless for my TV. Can anyone explain to a 66 year old person, just how to FIND UPDATES? Thank you.

I don’t have any of these issues… btw 1.13.2 is greater than 1.3.0…

I suppose when you’re 66 like I am, you see the version 1.3.0.0, as 1.3(0).0.0 which I would feel, is GREATER than 1.13.2.5154. But maybe I’m wrong and OLD AGE is to blame. Thanks for your reply. Anyone else?

Usually if there is an update, a banner appears at the top of the Plex Web App, allowing you to download the new version. As an alternative, you can navigate to the Server Settings where the version number is listed, with a prominent button next to it allowing to check for a newer version. Mine says Version 1.13.2.5154 with a checkmark “Up to date”

As others have said allay your fears as you ARE on the latest version. When there is an update Plex really does make it clear that that is the case as you will see when the time comes. Again with your version 1.13.2.5154 13 is higher than 3 so therefore newer.

Okay. Seems I’m hunting for the wrong thing. If I already have the latest version installed on the PC for Media Player, then why does Fire TV’s Plex, show I need version 1.3.0.0. or better? When I go into Settings in under Devices, my account online, it shows in the ALL category, CHROME, 3.57.1, Plex Web,Windows; Fire TV, 7.0.3.5502, Plex for Android, AFTS; and finally, Cloud Sync, Cloud Sync. Under Android in settings, it shows the Fire TV, Cloud Sync only lists Cloud Sync. And finally under WEB, it shows Chrome. Am I doing something wrong, to have the values above, but unable to connect the media server and the Plex app? If I am, then please explain what I have done wrong and how to correct it. The Plex .apk I downloaded the the Fire TV Download app, was the one I saw online that I was instructed to download for Fire TV. I s this Plex .apk, the reason it won’t connect? Is there a later version, that won’t show version 1,3,0.0. required?

I realize I probably seem stupid not understanding things better, but if anyone understands my situation, and has an answer, I’d greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Ok first thoughts You mention you mention Media Player? I’m hoping you mean Media Server? In your taskbar you definitely have Plex Media Server running and SIGNED IN? In seems strange that in all devices that you mention that the server isn’t there. It will be under shows hidden icons. The little ^ thing near the clock.

You are correct, it is Plex Media Server. My mistype. The page I described with the listed info I gave, does not show the Media Server, but in the system tray with the clock, there is an icon showing Plex Media Server. You right click on it, it shows 8 possibilities for you to choose from. I changed the settings in the ‘hidden icons’ for the Plex Media Server, to have it’s icon displayed, instead of hidden. Anything else?

Can you log into Plex.tv in a browser and launch the server interface on a PC/tablet? Preferably this will not be the same one that is running Plex Media Server.

I’ll try this as an answer to that. Yes, I can sign in to Plex, but No, it won’t open Plex Media Server, on my computer. If I right click on the icon in system tray, my first choice on top, is OPEN PLEX, which if I click on it, NOTHING HAPPENS. Second choice, is open Plug-ins folder, and if I choose that, a page opens that displays content I can click on. Third, is StartUp when PC starts, which it does. Fourth is Update Libraries, which clicking it, returns nothing. Fifth is GREYED OUT, cancel Library update, Sixth is Click for updates, again nothing happens, Seventh is about About Plex Media Server, and by choosing it, a small window pops up, that displays the version of the app you have installed. The eight, or last choice, is EXIT. wAS THAT WHAT YOU WERE TRYING TO DETERMINE? Frustrating, to have an app installed, yet it won’t respond.

Now, I have a question, that may be what is causing this trouble: I now have a VPN service, that a few years ago when I first used Plex, I did not have. But today, I certainly do have it. I’ve learned, that to access a credit card I have online, I MUST CLOSE THE VPN, because if I don’t, the Card will DENY ACCESS to who I am, as VPN are supposed to, so to get to a sign in, the VPN has to be OFF, and after I logged in and finished, I simply turn it back ON. A few sites I use, also get blocked from linking up, if I don’t turn my VPN OFF. Is my VPN, why Plex is not working? Thanks.

If the VPN is only running on the PC running PMS, this could be the case… However, it should launch when you try to access it from the system tray of that PC.

Turn it off, restart the PC and see if that solves your issue. I know VPNs mess with remote availability, but if you’re only running it on that PC, and not on your whole network, that could also be the case.

This gets more crazy the more it goes. Okay, I turned it off, rebooted and the VPN turned back on. I turned the TV on, and tried connecting the two plex apps, together, but it failed. What I now did was turn the VPN off on my PC, and went back and tried Fire TV again, and again nothing. You ten have 3 choices: Retry, sign out, continue. Clicking Continue this time, brought me to a page where they had a few buttons you could click on, but above that, there were small square windows, with different contents in them, and when I clicked on one, the entire set of windows appeared, and I recognized this as footage I had saved on Plex a few years ago. At the end line, the word MORE appeared, I clicked it, and HUNDREDS of film clips I had saved back then, were now still available. I suppose what happened is I got into my old contents from the past, that are still available. So, both Plex apps won’t connect, but all my past contents I put, are still available. And yes, when I went to sign up for a Plex acct., it recognized me, and signed into my old account, that still has what I had put in it. But I guess, figuring out how to make then both connect, is not known yet. Thanks for your tips, appreciate it.

I have a Sony Android XBR TV. PLEX was working fine up until a week ago. Now it will not connect to either my hardwired internet nor to my wifi. Keeps telling me I need 1.3.0.0. or higher. I have 1.13… which is way higher . How do I solve the problem of PLEX not recognizing my inernet? All other apps recognize both hardwire and wifi
Thanks
