why is my plex poster always the same and not relevant to movie or tv show?
I’ve experienced that Plex uses some poster/background from your library as placeholder/default in some cases. usually this is happening if a movie isn’t actually matched.
did Plex obtain the other metadata for this movie / show (such as description, cast, ratings…) or is just the poster off?
if the remaining data is missing you can…
- fix your filenames according to the Plex media preparation naming conventions (making sure it exists e.g. in The Movie Database / IMDB with that exact name)
- fix the matching within the app via the movie’s context menu.
Care to show us what the poster is?
chances are that you have an image file named poster.jpg, folder.jpg, show.jpg or something similarly named somewhere in the folders your libraries are pointed to. You can find and delete or rename those files (they may be hidden files) and refresh the library and Plex should show the proper posters.
Not only ‘hidden’ files but sometimes also files marked as ‘System’ (which requires yet another check box to be filled to make them visible).
This happens very often after a media folder has been “touched” by ‘Windows Media Player’.
