I can’t get any metadata (posters or trailers) for media I have on my computer. But the “update” has been going for 20 minutes and it’s all movies and metadata for things I don’t own. Example, I don’t own “Daredevil” but the Plex server has downloaded the data for it. Why? What’s going wrong? I’m new to plex and trying before I buy, but if it doesn’t work for me…
I’ve been watching the status channel and it’s very active, just not on anything I actually own.
Then Plex did not recognise what movies you have.
The reason for this is almost always ambiguous file naming.
Figured it out. I have a lot of home movies in my collection, Plex can’t identify them so it’s just pretending they’re other things. I clicked on “The Number 23” and found one of my wife and I’s home movies… yeah… that’s a thing… moving THAT folder.

You may want to move Home videos into a whole different folder.
Then create a separate Plex library (type: Other/Home Videos) for it.
