Hi, I have set up a new Plex Media Server (v1.7.5.4035-313f93718). I created a Movie library using the default options (using Plex Movie Scanner and the Plex Movie agent). I also added CineMaterial as a third source under the Plex Movie Agent. However, when I add any movie to my Movie Library, no metadata about the movie (synopsis, movie poster, cast etc) are downloaded.
When I add a movie to the library, I see under “Status” the following: “Created [insert movie name]” and “Matching [insert movie name]”. I also see “Downloading metadata for [insert movie name]” and then “Library scan complete: Extra information may still be downloading from the internet”. And 10 minutes later I see “Finished processing [insert movie name]”. But nothing has actually downloaded.
I had an older PMS that worked perfectly fine. So I don’t see why this new one doesn’t. I was wondering if my AV software was to blame. But I disabled it and hit Refresh Metadata but I still see “Downloading metadata for [insert movie name]” and 10 minutes later, “Finished processing [insert movie name]” with no visible effect.
Is there any issue with my library agents or is there some other problem?
Hi, sorry for the delay in responding. I also had separate Verizon FiOS issues. Only one first-world crisis at a time
I should note the following:
The files are named correctly with regards to Plex-approved naming conventions. I actually had the HDDs attached to a Plex Media Server that was working properly. I then built a new machine and moved HDDs from the old to the new PMS. When setting up the libraries, I pointed Plex to the already established folders. So, all the files were and are named and organized just the way Plex likes it.
Just to be clear, for example, for the movie ‘12 Years A Slave’, these are the relevant file paths:
‘D:\Movies\12 Years A Slave (2013)’
‘D:\Movies\12 Years A Slave (2013)\12 Years A Slave (2013).mkv’
‘D:\Movies\12 Years A Slave (2013)\Featurettes’
‘D:\Movies\12 Years A Slave (2013)\Featurettes\The Score.mkv’
‘D:\Movies\12 Years A Slave (2013)\Featurettes\The Team.mkv’
Since my first post above, I uninstalled PMS (making sure to get rid of the Plex files in the AppData folder), deleted the server from my account, re-downloaded PMS from Plex.tv and installed it again. I went through the whole setup process again but no dice. Still having the same problems.
I am now running Plex Media Server v1.7.6.4058-8fa494d15.
This is the relevant part of the status page of the Plex Media Server when I added just one movie (‘12 Years A Slave’) to the new Movies library:
This is the entry for the movie itself, where you can see no actual metadata has been found:
I have downloaded the log files and attached them to this post (I take it there is nothing personally identifiable in these logs?). The relevant Plex Media Scanner log for the Movies library is ‘Plex Media Scanner.log’. I left the other libraries empty for now, until the issue is resolved.
I tried both solutions. Deleting everything in the com.plexapp.agents.imdb folder doesn’t do anything.
I then restored my database backup, using the linked guide. I pointed Plex to the new source folders (since it still had the old filepaths stored). Now, while I have most metadata (i.e. cast, synopsis etc), I still do not have movie/TV posters. This is even after I hit ‘Refresh All Metadata’.
What I can’t understand is why simply starting from scratch doesn’t fix the problem (and why I had no problems with my old server instance). What is it about querying metadata from IMBb that simply isn’t working?
I also noticed that, after hitting “Refresh All Metadata”, the ratings on some of the individual movie pages are coming from IMDb, even though I have it set in the Movie library setting page that the ratings should come from Rotten Tomatoes. Don’t know if this is illuminating in any way, but thought I’d mention it.
Sorry to drag up an old post. But, in case anyone is having similar problems to me, what I found worked in the end was simply fixing incorrect matches one by one for each entry on my Plex server (i.e. each movie and each TV series).
I had tried this step earlier but somehow trying it again worked finally. Not sure exactly how the problem got fixed. I’m just glad it’s over #firstworldproblems
