Leaving for a vacation tomorrow and its been a year since I synced a number of Disney movies for my daughter. I logged into plex on her ipad and noticed it needed updated, so I performed the update. I found a bunch of movies for her to add to her sync collection. After I had them all marked for sync, I went to see the status, and it is starting the sync all over!!! it is syncing movies that were already on her local ipad.
Is this by design? Am I missing a setting? THere are so many files to sync I dont think it will be done by the morning. . .
I tried the same procedure on my Windows 10 Laptop and the same thing happened. Any ideas>?
2 possibilities:
-
there was a new Sync architecture introduced into the iOS app back in August 2015. Unfortunately this had the side effect that all synced content needed to be reprocessed.
This same new sync architecture was later introduced to the Windows Store Plex App too.
-
did you install the latest Transcoder technical preview version PMS 0.9.17? This too has the side effect, that many synced items are re-processed, particularly when their ‘originals’ on the server were changed since the first Sync operation.
[edit] sentence 2 in 1) is not true
[edit2] a third possibility: if a client device is not “seen” by the server for several months, the sync is considered “dead” and will be resfreshed when the device re-appears
Wow, thanks so much for the information. I am guessing it was the the Sync Architecture back in August 2015. I havent tested since, but this is great info to have. I appreciate the time to provide this post.
