Mobile Sync Errors

I really like the new sync UI and functionaltiy. I am mainly syncing TV shows to my phone. I select only unwatched videos, with a max of 5 with the 320kbs bit rate. Pretty regularly I get errors in sync for a show that says I need to reanalyze the content to fix the error. Reanalyzing doesn’t seem to do anything. To fix the error, I have to delete show from the sync screen in the server web UI and then re-sync the show selecting the same parameters as above.

In general the mobile sync functions and UI are greatly inproved and much easier to use. If we can figure out this problem it would be awesome.

I determined what the issue is. I am using the Playon Recorder to record shows from various streaming services. The files are recorded to the location where my plex library exists. Plex was starting to add the files before they were completely recorded. The sync process saw a new file and tried to convert and copy before the whole file was recorded and errored out.
Reanalyzing does not solve the problem. I am going to try doing a periodic library update, rather than an auto update. Maybe this will solve the problem.

Yes. That would cause the problem you see. Typically it is not a good idea to record into the Plex folder when using auto update. Even a periodic update can still cause this issue. Re-analyzing the file won’t work in this case since the sync job is looking for a file with specific parameters that doesn’t exist.

Updating my library every 12 hours helps this issue, but still occasionally it still happens. Any chance that Plex could be fixed to help resolve this issue by possibly marking an episode watched and then unwatched to restart the sync? or by doing a Refresh of the metadata? Currently I have to delete the show’s sync info and then re-sync.

So currently when this happens, Plex gives erroneous information about the state of the sync process and gives a resolution step that does not work. Fortunately I am nerdy enough to have figured out the problem. It would be great if Plex could deal with this better.

Maybe during the re-analyze or refresh you could check to see if the show is currently being synced and try to resolve the issue with the missing file.
