Why is Primetime 5-8 pm instead of 7-10 pm or 8-11 pm?

Server Version#: 1.20.3.3437 (Windows 10)
Player Version#: 4.44.2 PlexWeb
Tuner Make/Model: HDHomeRun
Using XMLTV?: No

This could be an “is it just me?” question: Whenever I go to the TV guide in PlexWeb and choose a time, the first few options are correct: Midnight starts at Midnight for example. But Primetime starts at 5:00 pm, and ends right at 8:00 pm, which seems weird. Is this intentional?

Edit: To note, I did check my server and client time zones, and they’re all correct. I’m in PDT.

This continues to be ignored (for two years) by the admins or Plex. Its patently absurd how simply this would be to change or to allow a user to set what time the DVR guide opens to.

Searching for primetime DVR will show you the same issues as far back at 2017.

“Prime time is commonly defined as 8:00–11:00 p.m. Eastern/Pacific and 7:00–10:00 p.m. Central/Mountain. On Sundays, the major broadcast television networks traditionally begin their primetime programming at 7:00 p.m. (Eastern/Pacific, 6:00 p.m. Central/Mountain) instead.”

Unless you’re Plex, in which case its 5 and only 5 and GFY.

Can’t promise anything but I’m looking into it. This is one of those quirks that’s bothered me too, “two options for morning but no options of evening??”

Alright, we’ll get something out later this month. For the sake of expediency it won’t take into account the 1 hr shift for mountain/central, not will it take into account the differences in countries that define things like “prime time” much differently (e.g. 6:00PM). But “jump to…” options and the time they reference will be improved.

Thanks for your help!

Marvelous. A Christmas Miracle!

Tremendous Thanks.

Will change to…

Midnight 12AM
Overnight 2AM
Morning 6AM
Daytime 10AM
Evening 5PM
Prime Time 8PM
Late Night 11PM

Or for flexibility you could make settings that could allow a user to define their own “default” times to open the guide to when switching days. I often set a bunch of series to record at the beginning of seasons, and when I switch days, I always go back to 5pm and have to scroll right to get to true “prime time” shows.

While we’re at it, it’d be GREAT if we could get a set of “favorite” channels. I have a great HD antenna that picks up >50 channels, but my local broadcast ones are what I most often care about, and I have to go scrolling around to get from channel 2.1 down to 30.1 with about 30 things in between. If I could have a “favorites” tags for my channels that I could filter, I’d be a very happy camper.

User defined setting is best option (even if defaulting to the above)

5pm is not evening, it’s Afternoon and prime Time starting at 8pm is too late, 7pm would be better, lasting till 10pm

Thanks, Looking forward to the time jump values being updated. 8PM is great for me (Eastern and Pacific in USA) But long term setting these as defaults and letting user set their own values would be appreciated.

There really needs to be an option. Primetime is from 7:00 pm to 9:59 pm in the Central timezone.

I know where you are coming from… in Chicago there are 97 channels.

Did anyone else lose the Prime Time Option? I now only have the following ( Version 1.22.1.4275):

Midnight
Overnight
Morning
Daytime
Evening
Late Night

It was removed in one of the latest web releases.

Bring back Prime time… PLEASE

bring back the 8pm shortcut please. having to click the day of the week and then pick 5pm and click right SIX TIMES or pick 11pm and click left SIX times is very annoying if you want to check every single day’s programming.

This seems to be another of the things that the user community has given their feedback on, and which the Plex team seems to put at the bottom of their development backlog. It’s depressing, because it really impact usability. A simple lookup table of geos and how their prime time is mapped should be relatively easy, and could be something that users themselves could modify.

The addition of a channel “favorites” would also ease navigation, as I don’t want to remove channels from my tuners, but I also don’t need to scroll down between channels 4.1 and 30.1 to get between major network broadcast stations. Again, something that could be user extensible.

It’s sad that I have almost reached the point that giving feedback is just a further time waste which could be better spent scrolling right in the Live TV guide to get to my prime time.
