I love plex and as a lifetime member, I’ve always recommended it to others.
Recently I’ve started using plex with my iOS device and went through the whole syncing process and here are my takeaways.
The main question I have is why is the syncing process so convoluted?
In the age of Netflix and amazon prime video, finding the video and hitting the download is made super easy and doesn’t require any struggle.
I would really love if Plex had the same model and just had the same “downloading” functionality from your server as opposed to going through syncing which always seems to fail and never quite work as well as you would want.
I would love to see:
*A simple interface when browsing my server on my iPad to simply select an episode and hit “download” this would essentially pull from the plex server on to my device- locally.
A great example of this can been seen on an app called Sky Go which does a similar thing when downloading an episode on the main STB a user can “download” that episode from the STB to the iOS device through the app.
I would love it if the Plex team would take some of these suggestions into their apps to push them to challenge the big names in the streaming game.
Right now I still get annoyed trying to sync in most cases because when I’m offline I get playback issues that drive me to use other apps such as AV player to watch my content, which is such a shame as Plex is generally so awesome.
Anyway, just a thought do you guys feel the same way? would a Download button simply and make it more clear for the user to download their show onto their device?
