sorry guys, it may have been already answered, but still I could not find a precise answer on the forum after my research.
Can anyone tell me how to embed manually entered metadata with plex onto files?
If I move my files rearranging my library, any time I still loose proper association, thus film info, artwork… anytime I have to manually re-enter wrong files association that plex does onto some files.
Using the plex metadata editor does not embed any data into your files. Plex will never write information to your files. It stories the entered data into its database. Then if you move stuff around it maybe the equivalent of a plex dance depending on what you do which is like creating the entry again in the db from scratch.
You would need to use an external tool to embed metadata into your files but be aware using embedded metadata with plex can be swamped with problems unless you absolutely know what you are doing.
ohh that’s great, thank you!!! My main pourpose, since I’m rebuilding my server/home theatre, building up hardware would be to avoid plex to reassing wrong metadata/connection to the files.
Does to embed correct metadata with an external tool the definitive solution?
Would plex correctly reassing info to the files then?
Which external metadata embedder do you recommend?
I’ll let others respond to your questions. I don’t use embedded metadata for my movie or tv media. I actually scrub my files to remove all embedded data before it even gets to plex. I use EasyTAG and mkv tools to do that depending on the file format.
I typically contribute to tmdb and update where I can to ensure the metadata is as good as it can be.
Best way to achieve that (avoiding mismatches, bad metadata assignments) is to make sure your files are named according to the naming schema used by Plex.
