Why PLEX trancodes ATMOS to DD+ and not to TrueHD

So after a couple of weeks of more searches and try, yesterday finally i was able to fix this (by pure coincidence).
Here is what i did:

-Move the 4K HDR files that are not working from the library’s folder to another one
-Refresh the server, so that the files gets removed from your server
-Move back the files in your library’s folder
-Refresh again the server to load the files back.

Doing this, fixed all my 4K HDR files, including the Atmos one which are now all working too.
No idea why this, but at least for me it solved those issues.

No success with that :frowning:

check that subtitles are not enabled when you start watching.

On my lg oled plex app I played a 4k hdr atmos file and plex was transcoding atmos to aac because i don’t have atmos receiver yet and also using arc.

The file also contained a 5.1 compatibility dolby digital track that i wanted to use so everything direct played.

If i selected the 5.1 compatibility track i would lose hdr.

It turns out that selecting the 5.1 compatibility track also for some strange reason enables psg subtitles that breaks hdr.

Even when you stop playback and then play again it kept defaulting to the 5.1 compatibility track with psg subs which obviously i hadn’t noticed and was the reason i wasn’t getting hdr.

It tried all sorts of stuff like deleting the file, cleaning library etc etc and in the end all i had to do was deselect the psg subs and then stop and start playback.

The problem does not exist anymore.
