Why swap it?

Ok so first let me say I understand this is a work in progress not all features are available so I’m not going to complain about how I could do a feature in the old app but not in the new. Also I understand there are bugs so I’m not going to talk about that ether yet.

My main complaint is the fact you swapped the library selection (was on the side with the old app and now on top for the new app) and the recommended, browse/library, and collections (is on the side with the new app was on top with the old app). This seems like a change that does not help with anything and will cause a lot of confusion with the lesser tech savvy people. You can keep the different libraries on the side panel and update the way they look for the “more modern look” you are looking for.

We don’t need to reinvent the wheel here with this new app a lot of things you have to click through more pages to do the things. For example the old app I click on a show in my continue watching and it takes me straight to the episode view so I can select the episode I want (not alway do I want the one I was on or the next episode). Now I have to click the 3 dots and go to season for the episode view.

I understand wanting to refresh the way the app feels and looks but there is a balance to it. By making it where we have to click through more pages to do things that was 1 click and moving things that get used every time the app is opened so it’s muscle memory after using the service for years just seems like your asking to have pissed off users.

Just my 2 cents with using this app for just a few hours.

Agree wholeheartedly.

I’m actually scared about the direction this is going. Both the mobile and the tv app.

Everything feels clunky, slow, unresponsive. Navigation is awful, buttons in the wrong position, a thousand clicks just to do simple stuff.

The current TV app is great and looks good. It just needed a bit of polish, we don’t need a massive overhaul… I just hope they listen to feedback and the end result is better in every way, but I’m not betting on that.

Yup. This change really makes no sense. Screen real estate is more limited vertically, and this new navigation style just causes the menu system to encroach into the area the content should be on. Meanwhile, the left sidebar only has a handful of options at once, going by what I saw in Lon’s video. Wasted space on the left edge where the library/source list would just work better, as it does now with the current UI.

Some of the terminology changes are very good, though. The concept of a library being marked a “favorite” (instead of pinning it) is easier for people to understand, and it’s consistent with favoriting a channel in the Live TV listing. Changing “More” to “All Libraries” seems very small, but it makes the purpose of the option more clear.

…and it requires way more clicks. Especially since once you’ve selected a library, Plex doesn’t remember how you typically display it and you need yet more clicks to re-display by name or last added episode in a series, for instance. Tedious!
