I have passed the point of being angry. I signed up for Plex pass monthly about three months ago and since then I have tried to work with the software to host my media content in my personal library of my backed up DVDs. I don’t do piracy, every file in my library I have paid for. But unlike every other company I give money to, this company offers zero support. They direct you to the forums and they never answer them. They never fix the bugs in the software either. The last straw is when I bought a brand new Galaxy S9 and the best SD card I could find on the market and tried to sync my content. It doesn’t work, it hangs on waiting for download, attempting to stop or restart crashes the app and often the server. I have come here for support and looked at pages and pages and pages of posts of others having the same problems and none of them have ever been answered or adresssed. I followed every possible resolution procedure out there from reinstalling the app to wiping the SD card and trying again to rebooting the server. Nothing works and still weeks later nothing, no response, no bug fix, no resolution. I could list the bugs in Plex but I think there is a word limit to these posts. Mashed metadata, streaming halts, stops, quality stops on a gigabit Ethernet with a Ryzen 5 powering the server. The Hobbit, recently, looked like a flipping slide show at high speed, a headache inspiring mess.
As for me I am going to go look for alternatives and as soon as I get one up and running plex is toast. At least I didnt pay for lifetime, lucky escape there.
Now there is the chance that they will reply to this and actually offer support or bug fixes but … I am not confident of that so I will finish with this answer in the form of a question.
Note that I posted this to the Plex pass forums and I expect the same reply here that I will get there. Namely Silence. Perhaps if they lose enough customers it will matter.
With all of bugs in Plex, the utter mobile non-functionality, the streaming issues and the fact that they offer ZERO support for users, who in their right mind would sign up for this service and WHY?
I cross posted because the other forum is private and I wanted to be FLAMBOYANTLY public. They can feel free to delete the other one. I hate it when a company rips me off and I will be as public as possible about it.
well… then in all fairness you should also publicly state that you reported this for the 1st time on April 1 (2018) – not “weeks ago”.
As for the syncing… yes, there’s issues and Plex staff are in a lot of the related posts. It’s an internet forum… so yes, it can happen that yours didn’t get the attention from Plex staff and was quite specific which tends to scare of other users who might have a similar but not that exact same experience.
As for the rest… what about sharing some details and see if you can get some help.
I’m not exactly sure what it is with your SD cards… but if you want help about metadata issues (1st rule of the fight club… always fix the file names!) or the poor playback quality of your movie, you might actually need to throw in some more details (playback in the same network, wired/wireless connection, what server/client versions, what container/codecs…).
There’s a lot of very helpful people in this forum.
Don’t get me wrong… if you feel you need to leave, leave… but don’t do it just for the show and to be “flamboyantly” – my 2ct.
Well I certainly have my issues with Plex and I have often shared your frustration.
However, feeling cheated is not an issue that I have…
Plex Media Server does for me EXACTLY what I expect it to do which is allow my playing of my personal media on every device I have and the ability to remote access it… A bonus feature is I can share my media with friends and family anywhere on the planet.
PMS had filled this requirement perfectly.
Yes it’s full of bugs and unfinished features and sub-standard support, but I feel I have gotten my money’s worth for my Lifetime Plex Pass.

I have been struggling with this for weeks, I finally posted about it a couple days ago. Apparently its a long running bug that they know about and they simply don’t give a fork.

Shall I start listing the plex bugs now? If I did you would rip my head off for posting things others have posted. So … I cant win with you so I wont event bother trying.

It hesitates streaming my media on a Gigabit Ethernet to a hard wired television in such a way as to make watching my content give me a headache. It offers trans coding … which I could honestly care about. It doesn’t sync to my devices which I DO care about. There is no support and long running bugs are not ever fixed and they take my money once a month for the pleasure.

As a professional Principal Software Architect in the software development industry for 26 years, I would say its BETA … AT BEST … and charging you for the privilege. Interestingly as I read through the forums it doesn’t seem I am alone. Lots of people are complaining about it. So here is a tip.

Clearly you haven’t used Kodi. AdvancedSettings.xml can make your mind numb! But once it’s working great it’s golden.
I’ve been a plex pass user(Mainly for Live TV DVR Abilities) since the first of the year and have been very happy with forum support and community engagement. And to boot I even have a few unanswered posts out there. For me, I enjoy solving my own problems of my own making and turning to the forums when in doubt or have issues. The community listens, even if it doesn’t look that way.

Can you point me at some of these posts where the Plex staff are providing updates on the android sync issue please?
I keep searching for news but I haven’t seen anything from the company itself acknowledging the problem or explaining how/when it’s going to be fixed.
I have a lifetime pass and an Android 8 phone where Plex crashes consistently when I try to sync music playlist. This is new behaviour - the device worked fine in February.
I don’t understand why there isn’t a prominent message in the android forum at least.

What bitrate are your files? A lot of devices cannot play any files with a bitrate of > 10mbps without stuttering even on Gigabit. Only certain high end media players can stream large files over the network properly (i.e. Nvidia Shield).
With devices like a TV, I usually have to limit the playback to <20mbps - it’s the nature of the slow processor speed in TVs, etc.
Sync is a bit buggy but it does work. It usually won’t sync content if you’re playing back stuff on Plex - it will only transcode the media when the system is idle.
But I do agree with you, Plex seems to have lost it’s focus and started introducing silly features like News and VR … they do need to take care of some older features first before introducing new ones.

When I had them in iTunes they worked just fine. So, no, its not the files. Even the oldest low quality SD films are stuttering and skipping.

Are the files playing back as “Direct Play” or are they being transcoded? When streaming to your TV, log into Plex Web and click on the “Status” icon on the top right and see how the file is being played.

and now that MovieFan.Plex offers to help in your parallel thread… you ignore his feedback/questions and prefer to keep complaining here?
There is no parallel thread, It was deleted as requested. I am not alone in this. The forums are full of these problems.
