WiFi access through Comcast Xfinity Gateway

Server Version#: 1.20.3.3483
This one is an odd one…
A few weeks ago, I had to get a new motherboard in my PMS and that meant I needed to redo my static IP and port forward. There were issues with it on my Xfinity Gateway router and so the agent did a reset/purge of the modem. We got it working and was able to set the static IP on the admin page and use the Xfinity app to create the port forward. I have the “Advanced Security turned OFF and I have full external access.
The next morning I realized that while I could access from the PC running the PMS (hard wired into the router/modem) as well as another computer that is hard wired, if I used any device in the home that is wireless, I could not access. Everything just spins like it can’t get the data stream right. If I turn off my wireless antennae on my iPad (and I am connecting via cell…so externally), I have no problem streaming.
I have AppleTVs and they can’t stream via WiFi, but if I hardwire them, no problem at all.
I have now had 4 senior engineers from Comcast to the house. They have tried new modems, new models, changing settings and everything is the same. I had basically given up and had hardwired the AppleTVs and planned to do something else int future with a different modem/router. I still have no problem with remote access.
Then, this evening, my sister in law, had gotten a new tv and has found that she cannot stream via her AppleTV (remotely) when it is on WiFi (she also has a Comcast Xfinity Gateway). Her phone does the same thing unless she turns off the WiFi and connects through cellular and then she streams fine.
It seems that it is something in the gateway that is not allowing my Plex server data to send via any Xfinity WiFi (which sounds very odd). The rest of the WiFi works great for everything else, no issues at all.
Has anyone else seen anything like this??

It sounds like it could be AP isolation (Wi-Fi client isolation). It’s a security feature of Wi-Fi routers/access points which allows client devices access to the public network (Internet) but prevents there communicating with other devices on the same network.

It doesn’t look as though that router has a specific setting for it, but anecdotal evidence on the web suggests that either one or both of two things will disable it.

  1. Disable the “Home Hotspot” feature of the service:

  2. Disable the guest Wi-Fi network, if enabled.

Thanks. I have turned off the Xfinity-WiFi but it says that it can take up to 24 hours to take affect . So I will have to keep checking.

They don’t allow you to create a guest WiFi anymore, so that is not turned on.

Well, that wasn’t the resolution that we wanted. The xfinitywifi has been turned off and there is no guest WiFi. The problem still continues.
