Wifi drop and no reconnect

Hi folks,

Rasplex have been working fine for a long time. Since a month or 2 I get abnormal wifi dropout.

E.g.: rasplex works fine for about a week and I see my wifi dongle's led flashing (traffic). The day after I see the led blinking on/off with regularly interval (wifi drop occured). I get no error messages whatsoever.

I have to hook up a keyboard to type in the wifi password again to get it working again for a few days. But it's very annoying.

Any idea how to remember the password and do automatic reconnect after a dropout?

Many thanks in advance!

Kind regs,

You can try and debug the issue by looking at the syslog and finding why it is dropping but since it is intermittent that could be annoying.  I personally would take these steps:

1. Wipe the SD and manually rebuild/reconfigure the rasplex... don't move the config files. I do this with about 15 settings and it take me 3 minutes.

Test

2. Replace the wifi dongle... think mine was 3.99 on amazon... the effort troubleshooting an intermittent install or driver issue would drive me nuts.

No need to reload the OS, try just rebooting and setup the new network interface.

Just my thoughts.

I already tried to reinstall rasplex on the SD-card. What do you mean by not moving the config files?

I think that I will indeed need a new dongle, but it worked great before :)

Thanks for your thoughts ;-)

Kind regs,

Due to various issues with WiFi (thick walls, low bitrate cheap dongles, driver stability, make of router, router configuration, etc, etc), preferred (suggested) connectivity is Ethernet, either direct to router or using A/V Powerline (Homeplug) adapters.

For some users WiFi has no problems, for others, WiFi brings many problems.

As the dropouts have only just started happening this is obviously not a Rasplex problem, possibly the dongle is on its way out.
